Ask myself if I was really sure I needed to spend £14,000 on a Golf sized hot hatch. If I was, for example perhaps somebody had been taken hostage and would be killed if I didn't, then I'd probably buy a used Audi S3.

Depends really on mileage and commute, but either:
R32 and some change
BMW 130i and some change

Or wait a little longer/find some more cash and get a Mk 6 GTI.
The current GTI is fantastic.

Seriously though, i wouldn't spend that much on a hot hatch. Hot hatches are about cheap thrills, and 14k isnt cheap. The only hot hatch i would buy for £14k is an M135i, but i severely doubt anyone is about to offer me one for that money.
