Slugs, we have so much in common with them. Whilst they enjoy the odd salad, when given the choice of partaking in the delicious leafy meal prepared by the missus, or literally drowning themselves in 10x their body mass of cheap ale, off they slither to the local beer trap.
Ours can't be arsed to eat snails. Too much effort. So many bird-feeders around that the snails openly taunt the birds, who are too lazy and fat to do anything about it.
I had that myself last night. I went out in the garden to try to find my cat to get her in for the night. I ended up treading on two snails in the dark wiht just socks on. They make a nasty crunch when to tread on them too.
To be honest, I'd be more surprised to have found a lawn in the garden!
I remember when I used to stay with my Nan who is a keen gardener, she would get up at night to go on 'slug patrol', but it was never anything like that!
Last Thursday I was telling my Mum and she says no way does she have slugs on her lawn like that so I arranged to go up at 22:45 and she could look out of her bedroom window. I turned my 700 Lumens torch on to the lawn and her face was priceless.
I have easily beer drowned at least 1000 slugs since I started this thread and they are all buried in the soil at the back.
Looks exactly like my garden at night, full of the buggers. We've also got a family of frogs, much to the dogs amusement. I cant think why other than we live within 100 meters of a country park... Even then, theres a road and quite a few houses and gardens to get through before ending up here!
I did notice one thing... The previous owners left a big bucket full of dirty water buried into the ground under some bushes at the back of the garden... Maybe the frogs are using it as a water source?
Not a sight of any slugs/snails/frogs during the day though.
