Iiyama monitors generally good quality?

Still on the search for a new monitor and just came across Iiyama. Really good prices and the specs look ok, but are they actually any good? Looking at this one in particular. Can you turn off the DCR? I have it on my LG multifunction and dont really like it that much, I prefer having my own settings. I want something that displays text well - my LG displays text quite fuzzy and so its horrible to read off of. Also needs to have nice looking colours - the LG is great at this (much nicer than my dell laptops which looks grey and dull in comparison), it just falls short on the text.

I've also been looking at the Samsung Pebble monitors. They look a bit nicer but I read on here that you dont always get a good panel whereas with Iiyama you're guaranteed a good samsung panel. Is that true, and so would the Iiyama image quality be the same as a Samsung?

Any other recommendations for 20" widescreens?

Cheers

DCR is pretty much always an option via the OSD, i would be astonished (and disappointed) if you couldnt turn it off on that model :) Text clarity and PQ can depend on a few things., but at least that model has a digital DVI-D interface which can help. Colour accuracy can really vary from one screen to another, and if you want decent colours, you may need to calibrate the screen, preferably with a hardware device. having said that, default colours of many modern screens tend to be very vivid and bright, and so if that is what you are looking for, as opposed to true accuracy, then you should be ok. I had a look at the 22" E2202WSV which is very similar in design, functions and features, so a lot of what i've said there might help.

The Samsung models do use different panels to cope with demand and supplies, but i wouldnt really read too much into the whole Samsung vs CMO vs AUO debacle....Iiyama do commonly use Samsung panels though, but that isnt everything. electronics and other parts vary and so does build quality. Samsung screens are generally of a better standard in my experience

Ah ok, thanks a lot. The Samsung Pebbles get really good customer reviews on No competitors! though a lot seem to get a few dead pixels. I still cant decide which to go for. The Dell Ultrasharp 2009WFP looks nice, reckon it'd be better quality than a Samsung? Guessing so, I read they have the S-PVA (think thats the one) panel as opposed to TN which is meant to be a lot better isnt it?

I hate choosing monitors. I'm just picky because I want the best quality I can get but cant spend a huge amount.

no competitor talk please mate ;)

yeah, Dell screens are very good quality and tend to be very good. The 2009WFP would be a very good choice too i think. It was the old 2007WFP though that was S-IPS or S-PVA based, whereas the new 2009 is a TN Film panel. There's info about the different panel technologies in the sticky if you want to know more about the pros and cons of them all.

Unless you want to stretch the budget a fair bit, you're going to be looking at TN Film models tbh, and out of those available in the 20" range, the Samsung and Dell models are about as good as you could hope for imo

Cheers :) Think I will go for the 2009WFP, seems to be more adjustable and looks great. Just need to get my LG sent back, hopefully the place I got it from have a good returns policy as apparently theres nothing wrong with it, just not a great monitor for the money :(

Sorry about the competitor talk, I assumed it'd be ok so long as I didnt link to them :o

I have the iiyama E2003WS and its an excellent monitor, very happy with it. Would definitely recommend it. Never had any dead pixels on the last 5 iiyama monitors i've had (obivously including this one) and you can definitely turn DCR off, it's actually set off as default.

Ah, sounds good. Dont suppose you've tried any of the Dell ultrasharps to compare it to have you?

In short you wont go wrong with a sammy or iiyama, i have the iiyama E2201W (the one that wins in that review and many other reviews) & LOVE IT^^ great for games, surfing etc. text is clear and u get DVI cable & VGA cable included.

genreally speaking samsung's own panel is the best panel.

the CW uses the samsung panel (guaranteed)?? and the BW has the panel lottery so u could get a samsung panel or cmo or au panel??

the iiyama e2201w has a guaranteed samsung panel too and is only £202.

The iiyama, BW & CW all look identical, the pebble looks funkier but you might not get the best panel and it costs more.

so to summarise:-

226CW - samsung panel £247
226BW - CMO AU or samsung panel £212
ss32bw - CMO AU samsung panel - £225

iiyama E2201W - samsung panel £202

Thanks for all your help :) I dont know what to do with this monitor I have now - I was going to send it back, but I have to pay for it to be shipped back, then they will test it for faults (even though I specified its not faulty, I'm just not happy with the quality of picture), and if they dont see anything wrong with it then they'll send it back to me at my cost, plus a £10 testing fee.. Might be better for me to try to sell it on instead of trying to get a refund from them? Then again I suppose the monitor could be faulty but it doesnt seem likely, the picture is great for images etc its just crap for text.

I know the Iiyama won that review, but the review actually put me off it. I dont expect great viewing angles, but it sounds terrible...

It's an LG M208WA. Not bad but text isnt that sharp which has really put me off it because I use my computer mainly for internet and work, then gaming and watching movies. It's allright for a TV but I bought it mainly for a monitor so its not really ideal for me.

afraid you can't sell outside of the Members Market area. see FAQ/rules for more info

I have the iiyama that won that review, tbh I have NO problems with the viewing angle (as far as a TN goes) I sit straight on but if i slouch or stand up there is no problems in off screen lighting, going left and right of the screen is oki too again as can be expected with a TN panel.

My brother has a 22" CIbox monitor and the colour on my iiyama kicks its ass seriously, even changing the ciboxs defaults dont help it sceen calibration looks as good as mine default without the tweaks int hat review :)

As for the viewing angles my iiyama is also better angles than the Cibox and some others I have seen. There are a few posts re. iiyama E2201W around this forum maybe as some of the other members who have them??

Ill try to post some pics of my viewing angles later.

Hope that helps - Im not saying its the best monitor but tbh they also say in that review the samsung suffers from the same problem. Not that ive seen it.

Had a new Iiyama PLE2403WS since last weekend, very impressed with it for high speed gaming (racing) and general web browsing, really glad I decided to gamble on a 24" after my 22" Iiyama mispick nightmare from another e-tailor.

My 19" CRT Iiyama Vision Master Pro 451 is still going strong after 8 years, now in the posession of my better half.

Thanks for that, I might have to consider it again. I'm not generally bothered about viewing angles and am happy with what a TN provides, I'll only be using it when plonked right in front, just worried me that they said it was noticeable even when you are sat right in front.

If it makes any difference...

I just bought a 24" Iiyama (the B2403WS with TN panel), and whether or not you can notice the difference in colour depth with the monitor right in front of you really depends on how far back you sit.

Sitting forwards in my chair, around 18" from the screen, I can notice a distinct (but small) difference between the top and the bottom, but if I sit back in my chair it all looks perfectly uniform. Horizontally it always seems uniform, unless I go to a really acute angle.
