This might be of interest to anyone looking for a decent value, well-reviewed chair with a 10-year warranty:

I’ve never personally owned one, but I’ve often sat in the Markus whenever I’ve visited Ikea. I’ve always found them to be super comfortable. Certainly more so than gaming chairs.

i've had mine for ~8 years and other than the padding having flattened it's still going great...and I'm on the heavier side (vary between 95 and 115kg on a 3 year cycle :o)

Will probably replace it with a "proper" chair like a Herman miller soon but nervous i won't like it as much and I'll be a grand worse off :D

I sat in one at work for years and it was very comfortable, and on hot days you'll love the breathable back. If they would update with adjustable arms it would be nigh-on perfect. This user hacked his chair and it looks great:

Ikea Markus with adjustable arms!

Yeah, if it had adjustable arms it would massively improve the functionality.

I've had two over the past 10 years or so and have just bought another one in dark grey so thanks for the link.

Nice find. I've used cheapy office chairs my whole life. Probably time for a little upgrade. 10 years does scream confidence in the product too.

We have a couple in our office, not comfortable for me at all. I really need a new chair at home so quite glad I was able to test one as they do get recommended a lot.

HM are the next level of chair though - hence the price tag. Only thing I miss about being in the office 5 days a week is the HM chair.

Had mine 3 years, squeaking after 2 years (white silicone grease helps), padding goes flat, no support if you have lower back issues it will make it worse and also the plastics turn yellow.... same issues with the jaervfjaellet I replaced it with!

I ended up switching to an office style SteelCase Leap V2 chair secondhand after I wore mine out (as they're only sold to companies at expensive prices). It's hard to know how it'll be until you use it for a while and as you say if you're not as young as you used to be a chair without more bells and whistles can feel uncomfortable when in use for long periods.

Got a used leather one of these that I picked up for free, so can't complain too much, would be nice if it had adjustable arm rests.

When I got my new one I noticed to my dismay that the arm rests were even worse than my old one as they have now removed what little padding was there and now it is hard rubber.

This prompted me to go down the modding route and I've ended up with something that is now perfect for me. It's the precise height for my arm when using the mouse and I have 35mm of thick memory foam padding that cushions my elbows and is so much more comfortable and a good deal wider. Plus I can now sit closer to my desk, something the closed loop design of the original armrest prevented me from doing and a small bonus is when the chair is not in use I can push the chair all the way under the desk.

Thanks again @eurokage as I'm now in office/gaming chair heaven. :)
