IKEA starting selling Solar Panels

It is a good idea to bring this to the masses but I would think that would cost a lot more than getting it from an independent place.

Thats a very good price. I think you would struggle to find independents at that price. Thats over a £1k cheaper than tesco, which was very cheap compared to the other people offering it.

I wonder what the tipping point for solar will be, i don't think it is grid parity (well not for domestic installation anyway). 5k has got to be getting near the point where, its considered a cheap house improvement rather than an investment for fit etc.

It mentions something about NOT paying for it upfront though ?
What is the deal with this ?
I assume you don't get as good a return but who cares if it is free installation and ends up saving you money.

Thats pretty awesome to be fair... Can't believe how cheap it is. approx £800 per year sale back too. So after 6 years its paid for itself! (or there abouts!)... well, wouldn't even be that with the money you save not paying for the power anyway!

I think that it is £800 off your bill,
not £800 + free leccy.

Could be wrong though

I wouldn't bother with ikea, they'll be cheap and nasty like the furniture.

If I'm going solar I'll go to a company that specialises in solar, this is the equivalent of going to your local petrol station for a truffle hunting pig.

Most companies are buying their panels from China, so you'd be getting the same product. Ikea are only doing the marketing, Hanergy are organising the installation.

My nan's next door neighbour (an idiot in his seventies who thinks he owns the whole street, neigbourhood watch type(even though he took out equity against his property so owns even less than everyone else)) had them installed for free except he had them put on the vacant next door house too! Had to pay to have them removed hahah!
