Illegal clamping

My girlfriend and onward woken up this morning by a clamper smashing a ladder against her flat to take down some private clamping signs for a tiny stretch of private land that looks like a road.

Apparently some people have parked there and the clamper has reappeared to put back up the signs and clamp the parked cars

I presuming this is illegal.

My girlfriend lives alone so it is a case of civic duty vs personal safety in forming the police.

Any suggestions?

Daily Mail headline.

Presumably the building owner has given consent for the sign to be erected?

I would guess so but quite how that covers the clamper removing the sign, clamping cars that parked there because there was no sign any more and then putting the sign back in place after clamping them to make it look like they parked illegally.

Unless I've misunderstood the OP, the clamper took an existing sign off this morning, people marked there today, clamper then came back to put the sign back up and clamp parked cars.

This is what happened

My gf tried to get a registration but they saw her and moved the car out of sight.

Police were not interested.

Nothing they can do by all accounts

I really feel for the poor sods who got caught

This is wrong. The clamper has committed a crime, the police have a witness and there are several victims to the crime - the police can investigate. The reality is, they can't be arsed.

I'd go for vigilante justice - whether it be ruining every sign they put up, or catching the ****ers in the act.

Of course, you could see if they subscribe to BPA or similar and report it to them and the SIA. Might get you somewhere.

Who is "Onward" and were you happy with him / her / it sharing a bed with your girlfriend?

You have to admire the clamper's quick thinking in coming up with a vaguely credible excuse for attempting to climb onto her balcony ;)

Vigilante justice would be lovely but given that my girlfriend lives alone in the flat and it is outside her home I am not going to be doing anything in case it causes her trouble.

I cant wait for November and I am disgusted that legislative amendments were not introduced far sooner.
