Illegal waste dumping sentences...

That sentence is mad, especially with threats of extortion to go along with it too.
Unbelievable. Free to go about the same business all over again.

Edit: I think the names (and other aliases)gives it away too, these people will disappear to a new area and do it all over again, almost a protected class....

Oh oh oh, are they part of the honest and friendly travelling community?

I've not bothered to look, but I'm betting the sentencing guidelines for environmental crimes are quite low. So that might explain the short sentences.

Then again, judges don't exactly have the best rep for giving out swift justice, especially when you read about murderers and rapists given lol-worthy sentences.

the inaction by the environment agency seems irresponsible too - like the Kings waste site in the media this evening now being cleaned up at tax payers expense ..
lots of locals complaining about dumping and no action to stop dumping.

OP article doesn't discuss any fines or cleanup costs in addition to imprisonment (/lack of)

The same environment agency that has had budget cuts amounting to 50% in real terms?

A lot of sentences these days seem far too lenient no matter what the crime is. I watched police interceptors last night and they caught a chap giving his son a driving lesson in a car that the son wasn't insured for. The police did the son for no insurance and the dad for allowing someone to drive knowing that he wasn't insured. In the summary it said that all charges had been dropped!! What the hell, they were caught red handed!! There are far too many scumbags driving uninsured on our roads and they let these get away with it.

Does seem pathetic.

Should be flat rate death penalty on all crimes :p

Should start at the death penalty and only go up from there!

Joking aside, these guys are scumbags that should be in prison for a long time. Threats, extortion, fly tipping. Absolute dregs of society but as others have suggested, you wouldn't want to be seen to treat the traveller community with anything other than kindness and understanding for their cultural enrichment of the country.
