I'm 12 hours into FFXIII

Seems a bit pathetic that you have to sit and be bored for 20-25 hours before the game gets good. It's job is to entertain, not make you 'hang in there' for 25 hours before getting any enjoyment!
Glad I hung back on buying this one now.

I'm 14 hours in, and feel like everyone else in this thread. It looks great, and sounds great, and the story is quite good, but there isn't much more to it than that yet.

My problem is that once I start a game I have to complete it..... I guess I'll get to the end of the main game, then probably not bother with the side missions.

I personally like it? I was a bigggg fan of ffx, but really like this to. Each to their own lyk, but it's a good game.

It can get boring until about chapter 11, once free roam comes into play. But after that I really liked it more.

I'm not a girl god damn it. :p

I'd say you are from the way you play SF4/SSF4 :D
*Braces for the slaps from the OCUK female populace*

Heh seriously though, I havent played this game much since I got it.
But I am giving it a chance. Apparently the game opens up quite a way into it, so I will give it the benefit of the doubt :)

i loved the game straight away, so you probably wont like any more than you do now if you carry on playing..
try White Night Chronicles, i haven't played it but my mate says its 5x better than FF.

Suprised you havent got bored with hitting X in every other one then.

In every other one you had to decide which attack/magic or item you wanted to use to help. you had to use strategy and some brain power to win many battles.
You could explore vast maps and worlds, meet many NPC and feel part of the world you were playing in and really feel for the characters you controlled.

FFXIII you could walk straight forward down corridors be it beautifuly designed corridors but that was it!
There was nothing in the way of character growth, nothing to pull you into the story or the world you were playing.
I played i think 16 hours in maybe in the hope that it got better but i was proven wrong.

The game IS NOT worth a play by anyone who enjoys a real RPG game. Get a PS3 and download 7.8.9 from the store.

FFXIII was/is the worst FF game to be released to date (and i hated FFX-2)
This game would really only be enjoyable for the simple minded who dont mind endless walking in a straight line unable to get lost, unable to explore and unable to offer what all the other FF games have and thats choice!

My rating for the game.... 3/10 and that is only because it looks and sounds beautiful.

Pokemon red was 5X what this new FF is.

To be fair I'm finding as you progress further in you cant just tap x all the time to win battles. You have to change paradigms to be anything like effective against tougher foes.

The game certainly seems focused on telling the story through cut scenes, rather than through exploration and an open world with towns etc. I guess its a design choice that obviously hasnt been a popular one in general but I'm enjoying the game more than at the start now I've got to chapter 9.

Perhaps we should be glad when developers try new things! Pokemon red - Isnt that the same game as silver, blue, yellow, pink, purple and magenta with a slightly altered lineup? As great as FF7 was do we really want the same game churned out time and time again?

Well you're ofcourse entitled to your opinion. But telling people that if they like RPGs this isnt worth a play through... Is daft.

I love FF, JRPG as a genre is my favourite. And I welcome FF13 as an added experience, and one worthy of more than 3/10.

It's a marmite game it would seem, but i'd put it above most Next Gen JRPGs, Although i would rate it as a weaker Final Fantasy. but even a weak final fantasy is worth a play through. I'd personally rate FF13 above FF9.

I am entitled to my opinion but i have been playing FF for years, i have played all and completed all from I through to X-2 (apart from XI) and all of which have been more enjoyable than XIII.
I love RPG and JRPG as one of my favourite game genres and i can say still FFXIII is still terrible.
The only thing the game has going for it is looks, thats it!
The battle system although had the potential to be brilliant lacked anything more than potential! The auto button ruined it, in fact it is the only button that needs to be used.
The story had a good base but lacked any substance, the characters did not grow through the game, all you did was hear a few sob stories very little back ground and then them on their mission.
I got hold of a copy of enchanted arms (a 2006 release game) and this has more substance than what FFXIII has.

The game lacked strategy in battles, it lacked diversity in battles, it lacked a strong story line, it lacked in NPC contact, it lacked in free roaming ability, there was nothing to explore, no way of getting lost, no way to hunt down those sacred weapons and no characters to bond with like the other games.

Tell me why its worth a play? what can it offer?

Well first of all you played it for 16 hours. No final fantasy to date has been a challenge that early on. So strategy wise, you needed to wait till later in game. where there was a great deal.

Also i felt the storyline was a good one, At 16 hours again, were you aware of the storyline in its entirety? as it was quite a good story. At 16 hours I dont think the story was even uncovered. freeroaming\exploring again came later on, obviously not on the same scale as FF12 though but you got to <spoiler>freeroam Pulse</spoiler> As for bonding characters I found hope's story to be best, At the beginning he was annoying, But he matures as you play which i found to be great.
Sacred weapons and the upgrading system i did feel a little let down by. But there were other things to hunt down, like accessories that gave you distinct advantages over enemies that otherwise you wouldnt beable to have beaten(Strategy)

I have seen and played further in to the game, ive seen this so called free roaming on pulse and its... well pants. I finished reading the story myself and have sat and watched the game played in near enough its entirety (i just played the PC at the same time) in fact i picked up the controller and had a blast on a friends save in the end parts of the game and found with a few changes of class (which is the only part of the game i thought brilliant) i was able to bash auto to win. It really really really does not offer anything.
The story was interesting at first but it never really progressed.
as i said apart from looking amazing it really is a massive let down for an JRPG a huge let down for an FF title and a waste of game play time.
By reading the majority of the reviews accross the net it seems the game has more haters than lovers, that says something coming from a world of FF lovers and players!

Just face it the game offered nothing apart from looking pretty.

I know there have been some haters of the game, But metacritic is usual best place to get an average of what's being said review wise.

It also got a userscore of 8.6 Based on 1161 votes

As for the Just Face is remark. There's nothing to face, I wholeheartedly disagree with you :p But thats the good thing about forums. If everyone felt the same way about everything, There'd never been any room for a decent discussion.

I've got to say i agree with this somewhat and im also a lover of the JRPG genre.

I don't know really, i like my rpg's to have a bit of that 'magic' to them but ff13 felt somewhat lacking.

Completely objectively and based on my own experienece.

As an example on two very similar games I'd played and more or less completed Tales of Vesperia before i started on ff13, and now having finished it i found there to be a very wide gap between the two with ff13 trailing far behind. I found the Tales of Vesperia world and overall experience allot more engaging simply because it allowed things to develop more.

I don't think the game is a failure by any means, its well presented and well put together as a gaming experience for those that aren't looking for anything more but as i said in previous posts, it's not going to be one of those memorable gaming experiences for me. For me anyway thats what really sells a game as being excellent.

got bored after about 3 hours play...looks very pretty and the first character you control she does have a very nice walk almost hypnotizing but it's all just cosmetic.
after playing Dragon Age Origins this just falls very short in terms of gameplay.
