Hello Im Gareth and i built my first pc and love it love the hobby tho my wallet doesn't lol but I have serched the web for good overclocking setting and guild for my CPU but I couldent get one so can someone please help me I will post my components below

CPU - Bulldoser FX4100
GPU - GT 630
MB - M5A97 LE R2.0
PSU -Corsair 500w
HDD -WD 2TB
RAM Corsair vengence 4gb

Also I am new so please keep it simple / Thanks a lot :)

First off what CPU cooler have you got ?, overclocking produces heat and stock coolers aren't very good at removing heat above stock levels.

So if you've got a stock CPU cooler then someone could perhaps advise you of a decent one for your CPU, im an Intel man so cant really help you with your overclocking but good luck and have fun ....it gets very very addictive :)

The old bulldozers are bad at producing heat, by 6100 is the same. Do you have a budget for a cooler as yo will need one for sure?

your also pushing it running a power supply thats just barely enough to run your system and gpu, any voltage increases could push the corsair over the edge.

I assume you have the corsair builder series which isn't made by seasonic and is made by CWT which isn't a good manufacturer.

Infact corsair have downgraded all their power supplies now and the only psu with the corsair name on it that is still made by seasonic is the HX650.

You can still get the odd seasonic made one, they are the ones that have v2 on them.

500W is plenty for those specs. A moderate overclock would be easily handled.

yes just, but my main point is that the psu is low quality. The corsair builder and gamer series have always been made by CWT a manufacturer not to be trusted now basically all the corsair power supplies are.

Corsair are following what Antec did and have now stopped doing which was to use low quality manufacturers but charge top dollar prices. It bit antec on the arse and thats now why they are using seasonic again.

I used to test power supplies for a living and trust me 500w to CWT or FSP is different to the 500w that seasonic made units like seasinic, antec and xfx.

I have seen power supplies that claim to be 500w but can only handle that for a short period of time before going bad.

My main point being is that I would not recommend anyone overclock with a low quality psu.

We all know CWT PSUs are not on par with seasonic but they are by no means terrible PSUs. 500W for this system is plenty at stock, with loads of head room for a modest to moderate overclock. The GPU is a low power gpu which is said to draw a maximum of 65W, the bulldozer at stock wont draw more than 125w by itself, so i would be fairly impressed if a first time overclocker, on this motherboard, managed to make a 500W CWT PSU be his limiting factor in his clock.

The motherboards VRMs will definitely throttle the CPU clock with anything more than a moderate bump up on the voltage but a decent clock can easily be achieved with just a little voltage boost.

On new motherboards there is a button which you press and its automatically do the overclock for your or if you enter the bios there is a option which does it as well. Have a look!

Don't recommend this, they always use too much voltage and if you don't have adequate cooling, it wont work.

Providing you have a good cooler and don't take too much notice of people scaring you about your psu, you should be able to hit 4.6 without too much hassle.

I've just had a search and there are quite a few guides on overclocking your CPU. I understand the bios may be different depending on the mobo but the cpu bus and multiplier and cpu voltage will be in your bios.

Also there are some YouTube videos.

Download prime95 and blend test any OC you carry out to check if it is stable.

Good luck
