I'm a sound card noob, help please!

Hey guys

I know that mobo's have sound cards of some sort built in, but I have been considering getting one as I love me some good quality sound!

What would you recommend as a good quality card to start off with.

I will be almost exclusively gaming with my rig.

Xonar DG/DGX would be a good budget choice. If you want to spend more then either a Creative SB Z, or a Xonar DX would be good. Spending more might be a waste depending on what headphones or speakers you have.

I have a Razer Megalodon headset, which thinking about it would a sound card not even benefit me as it has a sound card built in?

yes a usb headset wont use the card in any way so no point unless you also have half decent speakers.
