I'm British you muppet !

I think the 2 Crysis games were somewhere between the average user reviews and the average critic reviews. Only thing that really let down the first one for me was the alien section, which was boring and too long.

What tactics do you guys use? Had to downgrade to 'hard', as I started struggle on delta during the part where you have to inflitrate the village :o

I basically stealthed around enemies a lot unless I had a decent advantage, always look for and use cover, take advantage of mounted weapons and peg it if you have to ! Also follow patterns of patrolling troops and use thrown objects to lure them into claymore traps, use silenced weapons from concealed positions as much as possible. Must admit though, there were a few levels where I nearly put my fist though the screen...

It's funny.. the first time I played through the game on Normal difficulty, I found it rough. Tried sniping things from distance and got killed every 15 seconds :p

I played through on Delta last month, and decided to get up close and personal. Wanted to kill things by punching them, grabbing them, throwing stuff at them :p Found it much, much easier on Delta with this approach then trying to be cautious on Normal.

Moral of the story? Crysis should be played gung-ho as you like :p

While we're on the topic, (sorry to threadjack) does anyone else get the overscan problem with just the crysis games? If my monitor took DVI I'd switch, but it bugs me a bit that I lose 2 inches of screen size when I play it. Just started playing warhead tonight. So far, so good :)

Try pressing Alt and enter a couple of times either on the menu screens or during the game and see if it helps. I was losing screen area until I did this. It's a bit annoying to have to do every time you play but not as annoying as the inch or so of screen I was losing either side of the picture. Let me know if it works ;)

(You may have to alt/enter up to four times to get it to fit)

I'll give it a shot, cheers.

think a lot of the anti-crysis attitude comes from the fact its almost 'trendy' to bash crysis for whatever reason! the thing for me is there is nothing the game does badly (except those trees!) other than that it looks stunning, doesn't run too badly, has a decent pacing and story driving the game, the aliens are pretty sweet (sorry but they just are, i know that was the most hated part of the game) and some of the soundtrack was epic. prefer the original crysis to warhead personally as it had more 'wow' moments for me, starting with the HALO drop onto the island, the flying alien squid thing was interesting, the awesome tank battle with the spectacular (custom settings!) crumbling mountain in the backdrop, then the ultra-eerie 'core' level followed by the surreal frozen paradise and the finale with the huge alien warship. just a damned good game! :D

Agree with the alien section, it was a bit out of place to be stealth killing soldiers in a jungle and going on rampages one minute, and then find yourself floating around an alien mothership the next, trying to find your way out. There were some graphically cool bits but for me it really took the pace of the game down and I couldn't wait to get back to the action. Definately wasn't a level I'd want to play through again.

but aside from gfx there's nothing it really does well either.

it's not a great shooter, it's not a great punching brawler or stealth game, it tries a bit of everything and just kinda ends up mediocre at everything.

Is warhead smoother ?

I just ran through Crysis (Steam) on my new build and it would crash every 30 mins or so
I found out that the Steam version is only 32 bit so causes a lot of crashes.
Had to run the game in DX9 and that seemed to fix it, but it did crash twice more.

I think it's the variety that makes it such a great game. Just what would you call a great shooter out of interest ? because in my opinion it was very good at that, it wasnt linear and repetative like the COD games and allowed you to approach combat and assault positions in your own time and in a variety of different ways. I dont think the Battlefield series was particularly good either, or at least not better than Crysis.

I have to agree. I'm thoroughly enjoying warhead atm, at the bit where you're running down the runway under a sky dark with aliens. Just epic. Was happy to try out the new steam screenshot function there :D

edit: thanks darkstar btw, worked a treat

From what I've seen Crysis 2 looks completely different, even the aliens are completely different design, no North Koreans, no Jungle, no Psycho, no Nomad, no open spaces to explore. Might be a huge let down.

It's all the consoles fault! They just couldn't handle the open and lush environments in Crysis and Warhead, it had to be Consolfied into linear Halo style action zones, walk forward/big gunfight/walk forward repeat.
