Hi all, The time has come for me to get the car i have wanted for a long long time! Im buying myself an Audi TT. My budget is 14k and im look at the propper 225 quattro not the 180.

My question is, is there anything i should look out for when inspecting the cars? Im going to see a one owner 52 plate with 27k on the clock later today. Any tips??

Thanks guys!
Alastair

Best asked on the TT owners club www.ttoc.co.uk. At that mileage I can't think of anything however. As long as it has full genuine VAG service history you should be ok. Also check the dealers stamp at front of owners manual. If it's german then the car is an import. I imported mine in RHD UK spec(ie identical to UK car) but still some folks think they are worth less because of this so of use as a bargaining tool when buying.

Ask if it's had any recall work done like replacing the 4 coil packs. An issue that effected all the VAG 1.8T based cars about 2 years back.

p.s if it is an import and has the 18" RS style multispokes then they may be fake. The import market dried up after the 51/02 plates as when Audi did the minor facelift ie new wheels and grill these parts were not on the euro model at cost so had to be added to the import cost making the difference so small it no longer became of worth to import. Previous to this you could save a lot. My TT 225 coupe cost 24k and 1 year later with 12k on it I sold it for 23.8k. Certainly my kinda cheap motoring :)

Did you see BBCs Watchdog last night. The dashboard (or dashpod as audi fashionably call it  ) has a habit of going on the blink.

Didn't hear of any cases from UK owners back when I had mine but that was 3 years back so I guess it's an age thing. Good to see audi are replacing the FOC if faulty and refunding folks though so hardly worth getting too worried over it. Albeit I wouldn't buy one that was faulty on a test drive of course.

My step brothers TT had cracked rear springs and a faulty aircon compresser which were expensive to put right.

But dont know much about them myself!

Friends mums TT had quite a few bugs, all occured out of warrenty so had to pay to fix them, including CD player, DVD Sat Nav, Air Con, Front Suspension.

In the end, she sold it cause it was costing so much to keep on the road. Was a 53 plate 225

Isn't that a 2003 plate. With a 3 year warranty as satndard how was it out of warranty?

I went to a place in Uxbridge to look at a load of Audi TT's last year as I was interested in getting one. My budget was £15-16k and when I got there it turned out to be a house with a load of Audi TT's in the drive way!
I was put off at the ones I saw because at that price there were either really high miles but good condition cosmetically or lowish miles and were rough on the outside etc.

Good luck!

What were you expecting? Advice on avoiding burns from hair straightners and the best place to stow your scissors?

that was the jist of it , and making sure that the glove box isn't full of copies of Gay Times  :p
Hmmm...

Anyway.... :D

I've had my TT about a year now and it's not put a foot wrong. It did have a new dashpod before I took delivery but was covered by the dealers at the time.

The result of Watchdog last night has been a total victory for the TT community. One of the main reasons people who were looking at buying a TT were being put off was the dashpod problems and the cost of replacement. It now means that if it does fail it will be replaced free of charge, and also a lot of the members on www.tt-forum.co.uk who have paid for the repair are being refunded.

I paid £15500 for my car last year, having just checked around now for the same model / colour /age and millage the same spec cars are still up for sale at £1500 - £15500 so it seems to be holding it's value for now quite well.

It's definatly worth having a wander over to www.tt-forum.co.uk and gathering some info on there. I would definalty reccomend going for a post 2002 facelift model for the bigger 18" 9 spoke alloys and lower suspension as standard alone.

Bascially it was loads of warrenty exceptions, the sat nav wasn't included as it was caused by a faulty disc, the suspension wasn't included as she "drove over excessive number of speed bumps" apparently, and air con wasn't covered as it needed re-gassing. Basically it looks like they try to find a way out of everything.

Woman at work had one, ended up costing her a fortune (Prolly a lemon) was the 225 Quattro the 4wd went wrong resulting in a 2k bill, abs sensors went on the blink turbo problems / cracked pipes, basically it resulted in her getting rid of it.
