I'm getting a Virgin Media V+ HD Box installed and I need some help...

Tomorrow an engineer from Virgin Media is coming to hook my house up with a V+ HD Box, although I have some questions which I need explaining from you guys, as I won't be home and my mum is going to open the door for the guy, and she's totally crap with this stuff

I've been having a chipped set up box up to now and it has been working through cable, the cable is of course the white cable leading outside my flat into the plastic lid stuck to my wall which goes underground, the image quality on my HDTV using that box is pretty poor with interruptions of waves - and here is the problem, will the engineer change the white cable going through my house or will he stick to it, if he does will the image quality be interrupted again with those waves or is it just the crappy box I had all this time which made the image quality poor? I of course know the engineer will provide me with a HDMI cable so everything should be cool, but still I am really worried with this cable and I want to know what will happen, knowing I will not be home

You might want to hide the illegal chipped box before an engineer arrives. He might not give a toss, but who knows.
Cable shouldn't have issued, its likely the chipped box, when he sets up the TV he will plug it in and should setup and test the stations, so all should be fine.

Why dont you call up and report it as a fault once its installed if it remains?

I can't be 100%, but I would have thought cable is a digital signal all the way to your box. Having 'waves' in your picture is not the type of interference you would usually see if the problem is in the digital domain. As said it's most likely the box, but other possibilities are the cable from the box to the TV (if you used an analogue output) or the TV itself.

Are you sure you're not still on analogue cable OP? I think VM still provide analogue cable TV to certain areas.

If not, 99% the new box and setup will stop the waves. However don't steal cable you naughty boy. You are putting the prices up for me and everyone else.
