I'm getting old

General 'house' and 'racing' hack, thoughts?

We obviously shop at different budgets, but imo, these are too good and too expensive for use as a hack...

I don't do enough miles in mine for the extra comfort/reliability to be an issue, and I'm not sure if these are classics, or just old mercs...

In some ways the perfect condition is a bad thing. I've had a Mondeo Estate since my Z4 got nicked. The parcel shelf has been removed and the rear seats are always flat. I've cleared out lofts with it, moved house with it, and filled it full garden stuff more times that I can count. I've never cleaned it, and I can park it anywhere wthout worrying about parking dings etc.

If you have the need for one, there's a lot to be said for a mule, but to keep the value in one of these, you've got to keep it in the same condition, which means they're too good/expensive for the purpose imo...

IMO the answer to this question is a couple of grand on a Ghia X Mk3 Mondeo Estate, or with a bit more cash to work with, a V70 T5...

...built to a very high specification for the South African market.
Probably has the optional flame throwers either side then to ward off carjackers.

Can't go wrong with older Mercs reliability but they are really ugly.

I cant help thinking a Shogun or something is your best bet for all your track and towing needs mate.

eugh, no thanks :) Step dad had one thats was an off gold colour with the cream interior. That was 5-6 years ago now and i still fail to see the attraction! (other than the engine :D )
It maybe the last of the quality built Mercs but that interior makes the Supra look good :p

I tell you one thing about that interior on them Mercs those seats are a class alone for comfortable.

I think you're right You are getting old as the last few years I have thought more & more about getting an Old Merc, I'd go earlier though & get one that runs on Veg oil.
