I went with a 5600X for a machine that is purely for gaming. Bought a 3700X for a server back in December, but 5000 series was non-existent stock wise, and I already had the board (that had a 3200G in it) from the year before. Current gaming machine is a 8700K, so arguably a lot of people would probably tell me buying a 5600X is a waste, but, I have repurposed the 8700K as another server, and I'm selling the 3200G (4 core/no threads). I'll apparently make money on the 3200G because you can't even buy them these days and despite owning it for a year, they appear to be going on eBay for £100+ (mental). So by repurposing the 8700K as a server, I'm actually rigless. I'll keep the 5600X for 3-4 years probably so I'm happy with my purchase. I'll then wait for DDR5 to come down (I bought into DDR4 in 2018 and that was expensive!). I game with a 3070, so performance is decent. I really wanted a 3080, but again, stock non-existent. I'll wait and see how rest of 2021 pans out for stock, and if any new games really need a 3080 (doubt it). Really I will probably sit back a few years now. GPU's are what make the most difference nowadays, especially if you are gaming at 1440p/4K.
