I'm looking for a cat...

If I ever got a cat, it would be one of these, my brother has a blue tipped? siamese and its the most loving lovely thing, its acts almost like a dog, really friendly...cost him about £300 though.

Siamese are lovely - my parents have had 3 in the past - but they can be a bit aloof and independent. Burmese have all the good characteristics of Siamese but are much more affectionate and being a bit stockier are much more cuddly. Time to pimp my Lilac Burmese again...

Siamese cats are SOOO damn ugly though.

I used to think that, but once you get to know one for a little while, you change your mind, they are really majestic and lovely, bright blue eyes that almost glow in the dark, really good personality (they love to be fussed over) and the perfect house cat.

All cats think they are better than you, Siamese cats know that they are and it shows. ;)

You're right though, they can be very nice cats but they aren't always that affectionate especially if they don't know the person well.

Get a Bengal cat, we have one as a house cat and they are brilliant. You can even (sort of) talk to them and they respond. They don't malt which is why we got one because the missus is Asthmatic. You can train them to sit and fetch, ours is 100% litter trained and it likes being walked outside on a lead. Also it catches all the flys moths and spiders in the house.

Downside: Very sharp teeth and claws. Some people don't like their chirping and constant meows.

Lots of vids on youtube if you look for bengal cat.

I'll second that, we have two Bengals "brothers" (pip) snow spotted and (Milo) dark spotted. Absolutely beautiful rosettes, mental, love water, intelligent cats very very loving. You cant go wrong:cool:. Just bare in mind you can pay through the nose anything from £350-£3000 depending on how strong the bloodline is, our two set us back £900

Oh ya and I'm totally with BlastRadius on the sharp claws, teeth front. Word of the wise get them a daddy size cat tree you wont regret it;).

The one my brother has isnt at all like that, its more like a dog than a cat in personality, but then it is an expensive breed.

It get really upset when he leaves it alone, and follows him round the house.

No lolcatz in a thread involving cats?

Shockzzzz horror!!!! What ever next... Gilly been been wrong in any subject?

Great pictures of Siamese in here:cool: they were my second choice of breed before our Bengals. I have a cat allergy so that kind of swayed it for me Bengals are great for allergy suffers i haven't sneezed once in the last 9 months.

Sounds like you really want a dog.

However, get an Angora. They are beautiful, apparently make great domestic cats, but willl probably molt everywhere which will hopefully make one of you filthy dog lovers choke to death on cat hair. Only kidding.

Sounds like you really don't want to hotlink.

Oriental cats are well suited to a life indoors, and don't moult too much. I would highly recommend a Burmese - they love being around people and are real characters. They will quite happily play fetch and can be trained to walk on a lead as well.

hmmm.

Burmese don't make good house pets from the point of view that they love the great outdoors and are lethal hunting machines (we have 2, and have more over the year, the kill count on a spring day is overwhelming despite our best attempts to subdue this behaviour)), Locking one of them uo for 24 hours courses chaos in the house with cats climbing curtain,s knocking things off book shelves, srtatching furniture. They have to go outside.

The flip side is that they are amazingly friendly (if you are not a rabbit/bird), and love humans unlike most cats. and they are especially intelligent and adaptable.

Stick a nice tinkly bell on their collars.

a bell is on them permanently and we've spent a fortune in different bells, fluorescent collars, sound beepers, and years of attempted training.

The problem is they are natural born killers with a strong instinct and lethal abilities. We try to keep them locked inside as much as possible in the spring to give the chicks and baby rabbits a chance. But they go crazy locked inside, after a day they will climb through open windows on the top floor and climb down the building, or simply leap out in a kamikaze leap of faith.

We try to be responsible pet owners but the cats are just too interested and too good.

Bengals are great, despite some of the replys here they are't like a normal cat and like to fetch things and do dog like stuff. All of ours have been house cats from day one and we had 3 Bengals and a Mau at one point. We re-homed two and kept the Mau. The remaining Bengal is a 2nd gen from wild cat as such technically we need a wild animal permit for him but the reality is he's an utter softy, amazingly inteligent and has a quirky personality. In the last week alone he's taken to rocking the babys crib with his paw while sat on the bed and also mastered rocking it by standing in it and transfering his weight left to right. They do shed as much as an average short fur, it's one of those things you just get used to. That and finding him in random places like 8 feet up ontop of cupboards looking down at you. As I type this he's on guard duty at the feet of the baby's sleeping bag, anyone who goes near her who he doesn't know/like won't do again in a hurry - I just need to remember to move him when the health visitor arrives and put him back when we have visitors ;)

Mau's are also pretty cool but I made the mistake of thinking ours (again early litter from the first breeding pair in the UK) was big and slow, turns out they can do over 35mph in a straight line and he got bigger! It's like having a small dog with a large skin flap under his belly that allows him to hyper extend his paws at full pelt like a cheeta.

They are both ghey and love furr piling/doing ying yang poses as did the other two.
