I'm after microparticles for a project I'm doing. I want a good range of sizes of particle between about 4 microns and up to 100 microns, the majority being between 10 and 40.

I've looked at materials catalogues like goodfellow but it's all too expensive (starts about £1 per gramme). I also asked at a clean room to see if we could get some stuff out their filters but they say it will be too much hassle.

Any ideas? Doesn't matter what material it is.

Icing sugar is around 10-40 microns. I can sell you some for slightly less than £1 per gram. ;)

Thanks for the smart replies. There have been only two decent replies to my question.

I have found a graph on the british sugar website - icing sugar mean size 24 microns, max about 11. Ideal for what I want. Thanks.

Anti set off powder comes in a variety of sizes in the range you want. It's pumped out the back of printing presses on to each wet sheet to stop them sticking & allow ink oxidization. Pop into your local printer & see if you can scrounge some:)

We are developing a portable optical instrument to detect microparticles in insulating oil eg from transformers and switchgear.

Surely using somthing soluble like sugar is bads then cos its not really going to show up too well?
