I ordered a X2 550 from a competitor because OcUK were out of stock and the delivery was shocking it got delieved in a 45cm box long 30cm box wide and there was no like bublewrap or anything just a leaflet with deals and stuff on ...

god knows what could have happened like the courier just throw it in the back of his van with it all rolling about, im not a happy guy...

cant test it though got to order the ram / gfx on friday from here this time ...

im never shopping there again,

I had an OEM Sempron delivered from the US in a brown envelope before...was not particularly impressed with that.

If the cpu was in it's own box inside the bigger box it would probably survive being thrown off a tall building. Things like motherboards and gcards would be at a big risk though.

who was the competitor?

OcUK have always packaged stuff brilliantly for me. Look at the PSU here. The box was filled with that air-filled packaging stuff, there was no way it'd be damaged even it was dropped several times.

If the rules (and moderators) allow, I'd name and shame. Don't risk a ban and post until you know/have permission though.

This. Retail CPU boxes are pretty sturdy and have multiple layers of tough plastic protecting the CPU and heatsink. It should be fine if it was in its original box.

Pretty shocking stuff, good job it wasnt a motherboard. Gladly i've always been impressed with the packaging from overclockers

Hey infernox,

I guess that human being who was meant to slap a little bubble wrap in there was slacking a little . . . luckily I don't think a retail CPU will have suffered any damage from a day out in a carboard box! ;)

I've had some interesting packinging for hardware I've bought in the past . . . all used from auction though . . . got a motherboard wrapped in a lick of brown paper . . it survived and actually worked well once I straightened out the case header pins . . .

I also got an OEM Athlon 3000+ socket 939 chip chucked in a white paper envelope, of course half the pins were bent when I received it but none were broke and didn't break when I straigtened them with some tweasers . . . had a little grumble at the seller who apologized but as I only payed £1.02 pence and managed to get it working alls well that ends well! :)

Good luck with your chip, fingers crossed it unlocks and clocks well!

Thanks for that Wayne.. this was not of the bay but i dont want to get banned for telling you guys who it is...

hopefully it'll be ok and unlocks and clocks well, with permission i will tell you who it was .. so you can never go there again as i will ..

No problem for me when I bought from OCUK - it was packed with bubble wrap, when I bought hard drive and CPU that was cover very well... Im still buy some items from OCUK.

i wish that was the case with this competitor... friday i can test the chip and see if its ok.

and if its unlockable ill just end this thread and deal with the rubbish delievery xD

please dont be mentioning competitors.

speaking on behalf of OCUK

our packaging gets better all the time and we are constantly looking at ways to improve it.
our courier damage and claims rate is very low which means the customers get what they want without having to RMA before getting to play with their new toys!

personally i only ever order stuff from retailers if i have heard good things.
i use a dutch watercooling store for some of my more exotic watercooling components and the packaging they use could survive a nuclear fallout.

either way, i hope you learned your lesson! :p
