Here are my specs before i rant:

P4 640 @ 3.2GHZ
Fatal1ty FP-IN9
2GB OCZ Dual Channel mem
8800GT
viewsonic 17" CRT

I built it all this morning and turned it on and all my case fans, the motherboard LED's and the graphics card fans all start going. Which means they're working, am i right?

And i go to plug my monitor in using the adapter and as soon as the CRT cable hits the adapter the monitor just goes into standby and won't come on while the adapter is there:(

Then i plugged it into the graphics card and it still was in standby

And my case speaker is plugged in too but i've heard no error beeps so i don't think the graphics card is at fault

Please help D= and don't shout at me for rucks of text and my n00bishness :)

i am bit confused as tr what you mean by as soon as your plug your monitor into adaptor, what adaptor ? you mean power adaptor. also why wasnt it plugged in befoer you turned it all on ? anyway lol.

i assume its a new gfx card ? have you made sure the extra power connectors are plugged into it ?

Have you got all the power leads plugged in to your GPU and does this board require
the extra 4 or 8 pin for the CPU.

Reset the BIOS!

Everything is plugged in well but i used the P4 connector because Prescotts only need P4 don't they?

But i just tried that and still doesn't work :(

Could it be something to do with the CRT not being compatible with the 8800 or something?

Try only one stick of RAM and minimum devices, ie one hard drive and GPU.
Remove any other devices you may have attached.

Could be faulty card or motherboard.

Any post peeps may come form the speaker attached to the motherboard header and
not attached speakers through the on board sound.

i tried with one stick and just a 160GB HD but still doesnt work and im getting no beeps

And tbh, i can't hear the harddrive or anything over the roar of the 8800 lol

I had the exact same problem with my system. Different card, different monitor, although I believe the problem is the same (8800GTX x2, Hyundai 19" at the time). The problem stems from the adapter I believe- if you are converting a DVI->VGA at one end but keep it as VGA on the monitor, the 8800 series don't like it.

My solution was to go out and buy a new high-quality DVI->DVI cable. Set me back around £40.00 from a well known high-street retailer. No names of competitors here, but you can find the cables anywhere :). Something to do with the monitor not picking up a digital signal from the 8800 series (obviously) due to the fact you're using an analogue cable.

Edit: Also, the 8800GTX (not sure about the GT, but I assume so) has 2x DVI ports on the back. Try the adapter in both. I've heard reports off people on various computing Forums about the card somehow trying to output through only one as a 'primary', and regarding the other as a 'secondary'. Don't know how much of that is technically true... just clutching at straws here.

How about if i just bought a LCD with a digital input? Would that solve things?

I can't see how the monitor could "not" be compatible...that's just next to ridiculous quite frankly.

First of all, is your board the standard version? Or the SLI one? check the connections as people have said, make sure the 24-pin ATX cable, check that the 4/8-pin cable is connected also...And obviously the graphics card one too.

May I ask what psu you have as well? And do you infact have any other form of a graphics card at hand? If you do it wouldn't hurt to try that instead of the 8800gt.

Plese verify if your board is an sli board as well? Cause if it is I would check the sli-switch card, make sure it's set to normal / single card mode.

Assuming when you say you only used the P4 connector you also plugged in the 20/24 pin power supply to the mother board... This is usually a sign of components not being seated properly. The Graphics card being the usual suspect. Make sure press down firmly and evenly at the top of the card to make sure it is all the way in the slot. Then make sure your mem sticks are are pushed in and the holders at each end are clicked in all the way. After that it is just checking every connection and cable is plugged into the right place and clearing the CMOS by jumping the correct pins. Hope this helps.
