I'm really panicking now!

I am still not clear about returnin stuff. Sorry to hijack this thread BTW (nobody move). If I bought my iMac online where do I return it given that the nearest Apple store is about 250 miles away!

You should be able to insist they take it back online, your beef is with the retailer, which in this case is Apple online. If you want to try and blag a replacement though then the Apple store is probably the best bet.

I have the same issue with my mbp, my nearest repair centre is over an hours drive away and they do not service the mbp. Once I managed to get the support tech to realise this they agreed to collect and return it on more than one occasion.

I'm about to get into another **** fight with them over getting my 2nd mbp replaced, a loose battery compartment and a stuck pixel on the screen, both of which weren't there prior to it being repaired after just 5 minutes use, mine unfortunately is an Apple horror story!!

As far as I'm aware your covered by Apple Care for the first 90 days after purchase so they should collect and return with a bit of gentle persuasion ;)

I think the official policy on replacements is that they will only replace after a third major component has been replaced, so it has to fail 4 times. I got my first mbp replaced on the 3rd failure, my second mbp is now at its 3rd failure and I've only had 4 days use out of it :(

For returning items;

For my laptop, I sent it at my own expense to Apple Authorised repair chaps once i had an RMA number from their phone help line and the address of the nearest iBook repairers.

For my broken Shuffle they sent a box with the new Shuffle inside. I put in the old one and handed it back to the guy. This is normal for components and iPods.

For true horror stories try emailing Steve Jobs - there is an anecdotal high rate of success in doing so. Google for his email.

Suggestions

If you do write to Steve Jobs then I suggest the following :-

1. Make the title of the email precise and relevant to the subject.
2. Keep the contents brief and to the point, bullets are a good idea.
3. Don't rant and rave, try to be constructive.

Thanks

I have to leave the iMac on all the time to avoid the sleep --> reboot issue so it is not major but it is bugging me as the rest of the machine works flawlessly...... :D

why so angry, its failed, it happens, my laptop burned out within hours of me buying it, and it was a month before I saw it after that. This is how big companies work, they just don't care, suck it up tbh

That is very bad, that should have been replaced at point of sale, no questions asked.

My experience has been so bad that a very good friend of mine, who loves apple kit and has a g4 pb, needed an intel machine, he went out and bought a Sony Vaio yesterday. The mbp was at the top of his shortlist.

I don't know about you but if your machine had been replaced with one of a lower spec that also need repairing/upgrading out of the box you'd be a little bit ****ed off too. I have no problem with stuff failing, I make a living from broken pc's, but balls up like apple have made with me are inexcusible. Also i feel that the resale value of this computer has been compromised by the balls ups, I change my kit every year or so. I've lost a lot of money because of the failings of the mbp.

Right on saturday I recieved the so called Box that Apple said they would send out to me because the Macbook is broke. I recieved the box through UPS, and Apple said on the phone that the box would contain instructions on how I can get the Box/Macbook back to them. Just opened the box, and where are the return instructions you ask? Nowhere to be seen!!! There's none, how on earth do I send this peice of rubbish back for repair? All I've got is a Box and a broken Macbook...what now? You can be sure I'm not paying 40 quid to hire a cuorier to come and pick it up. They havn't even got a phone number with the box that I could phone, only an address on the front of it.

This is a joke.

What do I do now? Anyone else been in this situation? I suppose I'll have to phone this pathetic apple support line back up, and speak to an Indian woman that can barely speak english. What would I even say on the phone  "Err, look you sent me a box, said there would be instructions in it, but there isn't, how do I send this rubbish back to you?

This is really annoying me now. :(

Give UPS a call tell them you have a parcel to go back to Apple, you should find the other half of the sticker in the clear plastic envelope stuck to the side of the box. If not try giving them the delivery reference they may be able to trace it from that.

After about an hour and a half on the phone the other day they finally agreed to replace my mbp again due to its loose battery, I just kept refusing the repair and asking for my money back. They did however swear blind to the very end that one stuck pixel wasn't faulty, which it should be on something as pricey as this, but ho hum.

If the next one isn't right I'll give up.
