I'm really regretting selling my 3900X now lol.....

I just got £150 for 'old' i7 6700k which was a surprise, takes the sting out of upgrading when you can get 30% of new component price back.
It's crazy what people will pay for old hardware like that when you can get a brand new 6/12 10400F for less.

I guess that depends on if saving 20 quid is worth more than being without a working machine for a month or possibly longer.

Infact looking through used listings I see no noticeable price change for these CPUs in the last 6 weeks so it's debatable if your even saving money by offloading early.
In this particular case you probably don't save much if anything at all because the availability is relatively low and price for new range is higher so it should keep the previous gen products price stable enough for a while. But generally speaking you do lose value over time. It's kind of rude to say someone buys products they can't afford, not really anyone business to look into other people wallets. It's more likely that most people simply prefers to squeeze every penny because they have life situation that force them to watch their spending. It's common sense that generally spending more money buy you comfort it's a matter of how much of that comfort certain people need/require. If you feel like losing X amount of money to have your system up n running for a month is worth for you so be it. Some people have other priorities and it's not for us to judge that. Peace

I'm sitting here with a crappy 7 year old system waiting to buy a 5900x and 3070. The thing is, I'm used to crappy, it's not getting worse and I can still run everything I need, it's just the new system will be nicer.

Just because your games run exactly the way they have, doesn't make your PC stop working!

I'm same pal. Built mine 12 years ago and been changing odd part.

I have i7 2600k at 3.4ghz and a Vega 56 overclocked and still plays most games on max at 1080p.
Still get sucked into the performance game, but having moved my screen a little closer, feels like I just bought a bigger screen. Cheap proper upgrade :0)

Just a shame it's prob going to ba 6-12months before we can buy all parts for a full system without all the price gouging we are getting. It's a joke how much is getting added on to the mrsp on Nvidea Cards and no doubt CPU's will be the same. :0(

Not so bad if you have an otherwise pretty solid machine and can drop in upgrade - a lot less than a new build.

I spent almost that on a Xeon 1650 V2 (nearly new, 1 year warranty though) for my current rig which is otherwise pretty solid and nipping at the heels of the latest and greatest CPUs for 1440p gaming when overclocked v stock and only ~15% slower overclocked v overclocked and a lot less than spending out for a 10850K new build or Zen 3.

The important thing to remember is that when new shiny things come out your existing things are completely useless and worthless.

That's why we're in the situation we are and have idiots panic selling their stuff, and now have nothing to game on. LMAO.

Pc, console are all in demand. Until a stage where covid and people can go freely about the globe again prices will remain very high along with demand and lack of stock. Its not rocket science but it is extremely frustrating to the crowd who like new tech and gadgets. It's a case of triple the amount of customers for the third of the stock to forfill orders.
Commeth a vaccine it'll take at least a year or more to get closely back to normal levels.
I'd like a 3080 and within a few weeks I'll be able to have spare to get a 5900x also (using a 3900x myself atm ) because what I'm saving due to not being able to go anyplace freely and spend as normal.

Im hoping my 8086K and 5700XT will last a good few years before things get chuggy... Plus if your constantly upgrading your not seeing much of a performance boost, if any. Its a bit like burning your money.

Luckily I hadn't sold my 3800x , still in use and will go into the daughters new build for Christmas, did sell my 2080super unfortunately though , so now rocking a rx 570 @ 3440x1440 . Its horrific. looking forward to my 5900x coming, if and when it ever does.

You have people on ancient i5 and i7 hardware trying to upgrade and you guys are scrambling around trying to go from 3900X to a 5900X, feel for those people at least Zen2 owners can wait this out with very little impact

Agree, I'm waiting it out as I really do not need to upgrade.

Have to say I'm pretty happy with my ancient hardware - at least for 1440p and 4K gaming. Even at 1080p at 4.6GHz it beats 2000 series Ryzen (just about) and not hideously behind 3000 series - not bad for a 7 year old CPU.
