Had 9.5K in my hand once when my dad was buying a new clio back in March 04. Tried to get him to pay for breakfast but was having none of it and I paid for it in the end :p

my dad had about 18k in cash in his coat pocket when he went to pay the deposit for the house, seen a good few mil whilst doin work experience in the leeds city centre branch of barclays, as for most cash that belonged to me was 2k in £20's, at the age of 17 which wasnt too bad

With 200k in the bank plus, you could buy many houses/flats (60 or so) in Turkey and make a killing in rent!

Quite a lot. :)

One instance was when I was visiting a friend for the weekend. He's a jeweller. Actually, a designer and goldsmith .... with an international reputation. Well, a customer visited to pick up some commissioned work, and to have a 'rummage' among his other available works. I'm not saying who, or how much, but it was about 20 years ago, and the amount was in the  realms. Suffice it to say that the lady in question was a Saudi princess, the sum was significant and despite this being 20-ish years ago, would buy a decent house .... at 2006 prices.

Method of payment - crisp, new 50s.

I wonder if the taxman ever found out about that little transaction. I'm, ahem, sure he did. ;)

Sounds easy :p
Indeed it does. But property transactions in foreign lands are a very easy and fast way to lose your shirt, if you aren't very careful indeed.

Property is not an easy business, nor is it risk free .... or even low risk.

Snippity snip
I used to work in a high class retail store in London and we used to get all the Saudi princes and princesses doing their summer shopping. Their "runners" would come round after and settle the bill in brand new, still in the mint wrapper, 50 pound notes. I once carried £40,000 up to the cash office. It's a depressingly small wad.

The runner in question was going round several stores settling up that day, he was alone and was carrying best part of £250,000 in a rucksack. A small rucksack.

Seen about £100k in a couple of holdall bags or duffel bags..dunno what you call them here.

That was about 6 yrs ago when my dad was living in manchester and some guy came around and dropped these 2 bags off, me, my dad and 2 of his buddies spent most of the night counting it. Never seen so many dirty notes in my life . Am not obliged to say what the money was used for or what my dad did, i didnt ask and i didnt really wanna know as the guys who dropped the bags off were not the types you would want to mess with tbh.

Saying that though whenever im in dubai, i have some very rich mates out there...family friends and ive seen a few of them walk into a car showroom full of ferraris and other suitably exotic cars and pay cash up front for them. One of my friends just bought a brand new ferrari F430 i think it is, cash upfront. Lets just say the bags that the cash was in was very very heavy, cant remember how much the car was as i was too awestruck by the car to pay any attention lol :p

Used to work in a cash office. I got quite faint the first time I realised I had over £100k on the desk in front of me.

Yeah, but actual cash is so tacky. Just wait 'til the first time you find yourself holding an old master painting with a market value in the tens of millions. If you're holding that painting, and it's yours, THAT is rich! :)

And, before (and if) anyone asks, no, I don't own anything in that league, nor would I pay that sort of money for any painting.

I have a m8 who 2 years ago asked if I wanted to pay him a grand up front and go into a business partnership with him online. I wished him luck and declined. This last year he turned over £250K :(
