Im terribly sorry, but could you please "check ma' spec"

The fenrir looks huge! Will it fit in the case? I wont get the akasa blue aurora as I don't like LED's in PC's

OK, I have seen photos of the fenrir. No way im getting that its massive! Can anyone recommend a good, but sensible CPU cooler with no LED's or is the Akasa nero fine?

For gaming, the e8*** range is invariably recommended over the quad cores. It does put the cost up by 20 quid or so. Assuming you're going to overclock it (this is ocuk :) ), the dual core will reach significantly higher speeds and play games at higher fps than the quad core.
Even at stock speeds, a 3ghz dual core will outpace a 2.4ghz quad core.

Aside from that, all good. The ram will be excellent, I had the 800MHz version of that until recently and it ran 1000MHz stock volts, or 4-4-4-12 at 840MHz.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you Jon. Admittedly, todays games are not multithreaded, but there are non out there that will not look amazing with that quad core and the 4890.

However, soon we will be seeing much more multithreaded games, then the quad cores will be significantly faster in games.

Also, for general use the extra threads makes multitasking in windows very swift and any multi threaded apps simply fly along on 4 cores.

Also, at stock the q6700 is 2.66GHz.

im pretty much set on this now. What do you think? i decieded I would prefer a 4890 to an i7, and it meets my budget.

It's deff in the right direction for your requirements - the i7 was hindering your budget for a decent GPU and as gaming was going to be your main usage it makes 'component' sense to drop the i920.

My first mock up was just a very quick example of what you could get for £600'ish - i personally like the 4890's i just didn't know which way you swung: ATi or Nvidia ;)

That spec should bulldoze through your games.

I'll go with that. I stand corrected, go with the quad. It's certainly more difficult to bring a quad core to its knees, even relative to a faster clocked dual core.

Thanks everyone :) I dont care whether I get ATI or nvidia, whichever is best for the money :) I like how the ati card has an hdmi adaptor included though.

the spec your getting is similar to what ive just totted up.

I created a thread with a similar spec a day or 2 ago.

We concluded on pretty much the same system!
