They seem to go for quite a lot for what they are (£200+), if you're just looking for something to try OSX out with I think a G4 eMac would be a lot cheaper.

I think they use an IDE based 3.5" drive so that shouldn't be a problem, the ram is either PC2700 DDR or PC133 SD depending on how old it is. Both are user upgradeable.

about £150 looking at getting one for photo editing and ipod and itunes, i have seen a video on youtube of someone swapping out a 3.5inch ide on the g4, does seem to be a lot on the bay for about my amount:confused:, wasnt there a g5 as well a lot like the new imacs but instead of alum its white plastic

Heheh, opening the G4 "dome" iMacs is an evil job. Still, the specs weren't the worst in the world if you can find a later one. You'd probably find one of the G4 Mac Mini's for around the same price though, but meh, haven't checked eBay on that for a while.

I checked eBay, a G4 Mac Mini seems to be around £150, saw one "buy it now" for £200. For a G4 eMac of the same kind of spec it's around the same price! That was a good guess, hahah.

whats the lifespan of the imacs at present ??? are they due a new one soon, how many years is it roughly between each one, sorry for the questions its just that am thinking of saving up for a new imac full spec in a year or so when i my will most likely be ready for a new breath of life in my current pc :o

i got an ilamp for free from work. Its basically used just to run iTunes but i put lightroom on aswell just to see. I put a stick of 1gb ddr333 inside and 512 in the user accessable bay but the main prob is the the resolution, 1024 x 768 so navigating and photo editing can be a bit of a pain. I dont know if the 17" model has a higher resolution but mine is 1 of the later 15" g4s with USB2 and 1000Mhz processors.

Paying anything over about £60 for a G4 is crazy, they're what, 5-6 years old now? Very little in the way of upgrade potential and very very slow.
