My PC is getting very outdated and I have been looking at the options,

I have crafted a list for a Custom PC and it came to about £550-£600, I also have looked at iMacs and thought they were well out my price range,

Now speaking with a work mate about his, He told me that If I want one he can get me one pretty cheap, Probably cheaper or around same price as the Custom PC

Now I just don't have a clue what I should do So I came here to ask for your opinions,

My usage is a bit of everything really, I surf the web, Watch videos, Video chat a lot, Facebook, All that stuff, Also I do do a little bit of gaming, But I often go through stages where I don't play any games at all, I am In no way a serious gamer,

What do you think I should do?

It also depends on what software you are used to / prefer and what software you might NEED to use. However for gaming PC is the only way forward. If you don't need a mac specifically for it's exclusive software then get a pc. IMHO

Unless you're one of those people who get virus and adware as soon as they turn their pc on then yeah definitely pc, and yeah if you don't need any mac specific software.

Warranty might be something else to ponder - how much warranty will your mate's iMac come with, as compared to a PC with parts that bring 3 years (on average, some parts more) each, or a pre-built OcUK rig that brings 3 years.

Like the others, I don't see the benefit of an iMac over the PC unless you need specific exclusive software, and PC wins when it comes to greater range/variety of software.

Would also be good if you could post the specs of the iMac in question.

PC. Even if you can get a mac cheap, you still cant change much about it. And if you self build you can choose to buy quality components from reputable companies, not some bottom of the barrel Foxconn rubbish.

Also depends on how you feel about using Macs?

I work with computers a lot and cannot get used to the Apple OS due to my familiarity with Windows so much so I simply boot camped it as a Windows PC.

Total waste of a good bit of kit on my behalf.

I'm a pc guy but my first computer was a Macbook. For any non-gamer who asks me if they should get a PC or a mac I always recommend a Mac if it's within budget. In my opinion they're just generally more stable and better for general use, that is if you don't use pc-specific programs often. Macs really are wonderful machines and I would own one now if they were capable of running all the programs I need natively, but alas I require a PC. Hardware limitations also get to me, but that doesn't seem to be an issue for you.
