imac os x install problem

hi there,

i have just brought a bargin iMac 1.83 core duo 512mb SD machine but did not have to recovery dvd with it plus the hard drive has been wiped, now i have put in a Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger dvd in it but just get a picture of a folder popping up over and over again. from looking at the side of the Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger box it does not show in the requiments the intel chip but all the G5's now basically i need to get the correct copy for it so which version of OS X do i need, quick reply would be great as i only have a few days inwhich i can hold this for before i cant bring it back and get a refund. thank you in advance.

Contact Apple? - Dunno. Depends on the previous history of the iMac I guess.

I don't know if the recovery disks are keyed to particular models - can you borrow a set from another Intel Mac owner?
 
well unfortunatly i dont know many people who own this particulary one :( i have tried some from the newer iMac but the install just goes round in circles which is anoyed so if anyone out there knows of anyone with this iMac i would be so happy if you could send me a copy of it! will pay !

are you holding down the C key when you boot?

This tells the mac to boot from the CD - this is what you appear to be doing wrong.

You can do that until you are blue in the face and you still won't boot a PPC Tiger Install Disc on an Intel Mac :) I've seen less than legal copies of Intel versions of the Tiger install DVD, but Apple don't sell them on the store. The restore discs also will only install on the exact model it came with.

I'm sure if you put a call into Apple they will be able to sell you a restore DVD. Failing that you can mount your mac on another mac via target disk mode (hold T on boot, connect with a firewire cable), boot the restore disk on the other machine and choose your mac as the target device.. pretty sure that will work.
 
and if you cant get it installed the new version of mac os is due out in the comming 8 or so weeks maybe before.... so i mean you will be able to get that from the mac website and get that on your mac no problem..

can you not contact the original owner and get them to sort you out with the discs?

until then.. why not put linux on there.. at lest you will have a working system..! :)
 
ok, cheers guys for all the help here will give them all a go part from the targetting one too confusing lol, will get it going . . . was only £275 anyway BARGIN!!
