I'm quite interested in the idea of a 27" imac as if you factor in the cost of a good 27" ips screen they are a pretty good deal. I also don't do much PC gaming any more so I'm not to bothered by that. I don't really have any experience with macs at all though and I'm wondering if I could live with the change? I'm also curious as to why the "superdrive" doesn't play bluray discs? Are apple bringing a new on out soon or is plugging an external drive in the only option? Sort of a carry on question from above; is it posible to connect and external source such as a PS3 up to the screen of an iMac?

Thanks for you help.

True.

First key obstacle avoided!

If you're reasonably savvy and you get stuck in, you'll be fine. A lot of things work differently, but I've found that just about everything works better than Windows. I hardly ever use Windows at home these days.

Blu-Ray conflicts with Apple's hi-def rentals on Itunes, so they don't support it. Not sure if any of the software on the Mac even plays Blu-Ray stuff, given the lack of hardware support. However, moving on to the next question...

With the 27" models, yes, you can connect things to the mini-displayport or whatever they call it. You'll need some adapters or something, but I don't know exactly what. So, if you did that, then you could hook up a PS3 and watch your Blu-Rays on the screen that way.

If you've never used OSX before it's worth going into an Apple store or playing around with a friend's Mac before you spend a lot of money on something you might not like after all.

Some will say if you don't like it just install Windows on it, which is a fair point, but will cost you again.

I have a question about iMacs as well!

Thinking of selling my gaming PC and all the preherial stuff. I only just bought a 24" 16:9 monitor so I am thinking I could buy the base model iMac, but could I use the 24" as primary display and have the iMac's 22" display as a secondary display?

I already have the DVI-mini and VGA-mini adapters.

EDIT: Gah balls, seems the imac has a mini-displayport and not mini-DVI, I would need another adapter by the look of it.

Thanks for the replies. No apple stores near me in York and no mateswith macs. Thought about getting a mini as an into but they are not that cheap.
