I'm getting a new iMac and have a quick question...

you can get the top one for £1799 and what it has over the next one down is, well, not a lot...

i think i'd get the 2.93Ghz one, stick with the 640GB HDD and just upgrade the graphics to the best one - so the only performance difference will be 0.13GHz which i'm quite sure make sod all difference in the real world - my question is whether this chip is actually from the same range or whether its a better chip as i know these days its not all about clock speeds?

if it is identical apart from 0.13GHz then i think i'd be mad to spend an extra £100... are there any other hidden advantages to the 3.06 model?

The more expensive one has a 1Tb hard drive instead of a 640Mb, GT130 graphics card instead of GT120, 512Mb graphics memory instead of 256Mb and a 3.06GHz CPU over the 2.93GHz version.

So it's not just CPU speed. You get a bigger hard drive and a better graphics card with more memory as well.

The CPU is from the same range - In fact, if you choose the cheaper one and change the specs to be the same as the higher priced one, the final price is exactly the same as the second one :)

fair enough :) thats what i wanted to hear i'm gonna go with the lesser one and upgrade to that funky ati graphics card :)

luvly jubly

No, the lowest priced 24" comes with the Nvidia 9400M graphics with no upgrade option.

i have just received my imac 24 with a 3.06ghz 4gb ram and a 1tb drive i also upgraded the graphics to ati 4850 and i love it to bits it plays tf2 and l4d at the native res which is 1920x1200 and that in its own right is worth the upgrade :D
