well, im in the market for my first apple computer for uni, i just dont know weather to get a imac or a macbook pro??

macbook i can take to and from uni which will be a bonus, but still being able to work from home with the imac is still good

im just unsure as i dont know squat about either piece of hardware so things like MSN can i still use it on an apple computer?

can i upgrade say the gfx card in a imac myself?

as until yesterday i thought it had a tower i didnt know it was all in the screen its self lol :(

software i will use will include photoshop, lightroom, after effects and final cut pro

what things i can and cant do with an imac ect?

also i will be waiting to see what happens on the 14th october also

thanks in advance

EDIT: Apple give you an option to have final cut express 4 and aperture to come preinstalled for £55 if you decline that do you get the discs to install the software your self?

I would personally prefer (I can't recommend because i have neither, I have a macbook) a Macbook Pro, they're portable and extremely speedy (from what I gather from my uni friends using it for Logic).

Unless you have a real need for a desktop i'd go for the MBP. It's portable aswell, as you say, good for uni.

And if screensize is an issue, 17" MBP, 1920x1200 rez.

Yes, although it has no decent video or audio support at the moment, and office is compatible.

No its only upgradeable part is the memory and the same in the macbook pro, although the macbook does have a user upgradeable hard drive.

This is a good thing in terms of space, It always amazes me that people assume that it has a tower despite never ever being shown one.

I would get an iMac no questions a macbook is going to be under powered for your needs

You can do most things, I cant think of any thing.... Carry it around town, swim with it... Not sure there is any thing it cannot sensibly do.

Hype I think, but its always a good idea, 2 weeks to wait!

No you get aperture and FCE pre installed or you don't get it at all its not a case of charging you £55 to install the software, its not a Dell computer and btw they don't actually install software on computers they setup one version and clone it to every computer so charging £55 would be a rip off.

I would be supprised if it were £55 and not £55 each, but it sounds like a good deal either way. Also theres a cashback deal on iPod's and Printers, you can buy them and get a refund later which means free ipod nano/touch and a free printer/scanner which is always a good idea for uni!
