After 2 months of hell with the mortgage company and underwriters, we finally moved into our new house. I should probably do a thread about my foray into the US house buying process in home and garden.

Have you been down there?Box Quarry!
Be interesting to see why it was 'hell'?
When we bought our home over here it was smooth as butter! So simple, easy and quick. I had bought a house in the UK to compare and it is/was miles easier in the States (30 days from putting official offer in, to accepting keys)
Right now in the UK i have a MY2006 Range Rover V8 Autobiography, and a MY2005 Mercedes SL500 7G-Tronic. Ideally i would wish to replicate this and buy the same cars in the United States as they suit our needs perfectly. I see from Autotrader.com that these cars are worth a similar value to that which they are over here, so buying them with the sale proceeds of my UK cars will not be a problem by the looks of it.
I assume buying a car over there is the same as it is here, ie, you walk up to the guy, hand them a wad of cash, sign over the owners documents to your name and address, and drive home?
What do i then need to ensure that these are legal, insured (comprehensive), and roadworthy over there?
Over here the checklist is as follows (i have converted all prices to $US, and i wonder how our costs will change over there?
Comprehensive annual insurance premium $800 for both vehicles, both drivers, $1000 excess damage waiver (28 year old male, 34 year old female)
Annual vehicle taxes to the government $900 for both vehicles
Annual roadworthiness test for both vehicles $160 (assume no faults)
Annual service requirement $1000 for both vehicles
Any advice is much appreciated, are there any real catches or expenses which would not match ours over here? Our income will translate to the US directly, which is why i am comparing like for like costings.
Thanks gents
Cosimo, going to Prague by chance?
I'd highly recommend this restaurant set in a cave:

Without derailing the thread, I sure can answer your questions. Just shoot me an email in trust about what you have going on and I'd be happy to helpWould you be willing to knock up a post detailing the process? I am trying to gather information.
I am also concerned about motoring in the states, if you are able at all and have 5 minutes i would be most interested in your thoughts on what ive posted on a US based Mercedes forum!![]()
That looks interesting.![]()
