Images of items I have purchased.

If I didn't have a solid state DAC/Amp then an analogue beauty like that would certainly be on the shopping list!

Can we not change the title of this thread?

Maybe, "My new gadgets" or "Look what I've bought!"

"Images of items I have purchased" sounds pompous, capitalist and stuck up.

Really gets my goat! I cringe every time I see the thread.

Sorry.

Maybe it should be called "I'm a militant vegetarian, look at all this leather stuff I've purchased!"

What are they and what do they do?

Also: That's pretty stonking picture quality for ISO 5000.

Adds warm flavour to sound making music more enjoyable.

The ISO is expected for that camera. Look at the 100% version in Flickr though and you will see all the noise present. Resized for web you don't see the noise :p

Build log in the Home section please!

Will do! I only got the idea as a 'how to make a knife' video was recommended on Youtube and 30 mins later I ordered that kit. I want to get into bushcraft and carving, so seems like a good first project and will come in handy.

Still need to get some slow cure epoxy, sanding belts and some nice walnut scales for the handle.

Stop it now with the blurred pics, great gear spoiled by the pretentious look at me i have a £1000 lens added on:rolleyes:

You could get the same result with any of the new smartphones, and if not you could use a ~£75 lens to achieve the same thing.

Research aperture priority should you wish to learn for yourself, I think it makes average or bog standard objects look rather special :)

In ref to the tube amp pics, you can see exactly what was bought in each of his photos. What's the problem? If it's dof you don't like then you'll just have to deal with it! DSLR (doesn't matter what it cost, even the cheapest applies) + fast lens (again even the cheapest applies) = Depth of field.

hey mrk not hating but why do you pics have a white tinge to them?.. It cant be my monitor because other pictures dont have it. Not sure exactly what it is the contrast or something but they do appear very white! (especially the blacks). I've been meaning to ask you for a while now, i can always tell its a picture by you without seeing the posters name.

No white tinge here. Take a photo of one with your phone to show what you mean?

I do not think its going to translate well through a 2nd hand phone cam pic... But honestly they are very white for me, The blacks look very grey. Like i said i can always tell its a picture by yourself, any other photo looks normal and i cant see no overly white contrast.

Hey if it's no problem for you then cool, just saying.

I may be completely wrong but if you compare your Z3 photo to the valve amp photos yours are quite cool whereas the colours are quite warm in the other photos.

I know nothing about photography but I assume this is something to do a mix of white balance, ISO, shutter speed and aperture

mrk gave a good just of the feel :)

They are Electron Vacuum Tubes... the cover various stages in the amplification process, smaller ones doing small things, bigger ones doing bigger things... hehe ;)

Many things have been driven by them in the past, including music delivery for decades until the introduction of the digital era.

These are very much analogue.

Sound waves should be fluid like a liquid wave, however digital waves begin their life like a set of stairs.

Improvements in resolution have gone very high of course, to smooth out the digital structure as much as possible, but I swear I can still hear that effect in the playback of different systems.

Over-simplification above for ease of explanation.

Fully analogue systems offer a much more natural and warm sound to my ear, I prefer how the audio both sounds and feels.

The way these can cast a sound stage is phenomenal & I thought the stock tubes were pretty good.

There are a couple of types of music I prefer a solid state amp for... but mostly I prefer keeping my system as analogue as possible & these new light bulbs are a massive upgrade to that primary system.

I have a secondary valve system too... that has a broken tube and I'm waiting on a set of replacement tubes for that one & will post up pics when that's upgraded. It was that tube popping that drove me to update this amp at the same time :D

Thoroughly enjoying the early testing... and they need 100-200 hours to properly bed-in - the sound evolves over that time and I am thoroughly looking forward to it after this introduction - they are incredible!

As for the photo - Nikon D800 :) Yes in full size you can see the noise, especially with my lazy lightroom work. I do like how these pics have come out, even if I'm not a pro ;) Too much whinging in this thread about DoF... makes me want to make it even shallower and purposeless ;)

crinkleshoes , that amp looks amazing!

What are you driving from it?

Kef Q900s at the moment... planning some sensitive horns in the not-too-distant future. Although this combination drives the Kefs very well. Home theatre upgrade first with my house move :D

Here's another excessively blurry pic to frustrate those who don't like them... teehee:

My guitar amp has tubes, but it is covered though :(

Clumsy guitar players would break them too easily if exposed... swinging your nuts, necks and heads all over the place ;)

The tubes I am waiting on for the second amp are some that are frequently used by Marshall.

You could get the same result with any of the new smartphones, and if not you could use a ~£75 lens to achieve the same thing.

I happen to agree...

It can be done wrong/badly or just to bad effect... but this is part of my learning to use it properly.

Perfect clarity on some of those pics would make them a bit more boring in my opinion & it really pulls attention directly into the place I want it to be with the photos I have done like that.

The front-on pic, I would have preferred the input selection and volume dial to be in-focus though.

What amp is that? I am curious now.

I'm guessing but I think it's a Yaqin of some description, maybe a MS300c? or at least a similar model :)

Yes, it is a Yaqin... the MS-2A3

Went with 2A3 valves over 300Bs... various reviews mention the 2A3 valves have a certain magic in their delivery compared to a more punchy delivery of 300Bs.

I might like the 300Bs... I haven't heard a relevant amp to compare... but the reviews seemed to concur on many points and it seemed relevant to my kind of music

The second amp was the first I bought, the Yaqin MC-13S (practically the same as MC-10S just different valves really)... after such a good experience with this amp, I decided to try one of their more expensive offerings and have been thoroughly impressed by both... the standard "cheap" valves were good to begin with... these upgrades are staggering :D
