I thought building regs changed a number of years ago and basically sockets had to be higher because of old people/disabled people/etc - only with newly built stuff, or maybe newly renovated as well, though.

Indeed.

I spent 2 years in a new build flat smacking the wall for the light switches because they were so much lower than normal as well.

wow super organised!!!

Ah, perhaps. My house is at least a century old and the socket in question is the only one in the house not just above the skirting boards. In fact, it's about hip height.

Full length? Did you get it half price?

*Shrug* that was the item description on eBay. I can see my whole body no matter how near or far I stand, so I guess that qualifies it?! It was £85.

Why is that socket higher up the wall than normal? I ask because I have one a bit higher than that and I can't figure out why!

That part of the house is extended, so would have been done in line with new regs as mentioned. The rest of the house is 1950s so everything's at different heights :/.

Bit odd for them to sell it as full length. I've got loads of full length mirrors in my place and they run floor to ceiling.
