Having owned a Phat PS3, the best thing to do with them when they start getting loud, is to replace the thermal paste; I used MX4. It is really quiet and will be 6 years old this year.

Was looking into that but it scares me haha. I've built about 15 or so computers in the last few years and having watched a disassembly video on YouTube, it looks like there's a lot that could go wrong and i've got the 60GB Phat that plays PS2 games too.

its a very nice engine. i used to have a ZR.30 in a savage XL . i've seen people squeeze them into 1/8th buggies and they fly!

They are really easy to take apart. Just be careful of the ribbon cable for the BD drive.

The Xbox 360 is harder to take apart I think.

I too have a 60GB Phat Ps3, and changing the thermal paste stopped it getting YLOD and is way quieter.

360s are a massive pain. Anything with those plastic clips are products of the devil, an absolute nightmare to get off without breaking. The back of my 360 is a right mess after opening it up.
