Probably, it's just one of those things where I needed a solution quickly, and even though it's not the best it does the job.

As for different hardware, the way we use computers it's not been too much of an issue to have different images for different PCs so we've done it that way.

I think the idea with WDS is you'll then use Active Directory and Group Policy for all your software.

We use Clonezilla (DRBL). It is awesome, especially for the multicasting, and it's free!

Currently using Fog and find it great for what we want to do (we do currently maintain a separate image for each piece of hardware though). Can have an image deployed, the machine renamed and joined to the domain in the correct OU within 10-20 minutes.

We are currently looking to move to SCCM when we make the move to W7 however.

We use Altiris, although we have not changed the process in some time and still have freedos/rdeploy PXE boot disks
