Question regarding Imgur and the forum's hotlinking policy. Seeing as Imgur generates a random link each time you upload, is it basically unwritten that it's "ok" to use someone else's upload URL rather than reuploading it as your "own"? :)

Imgur is an image host, you're not stealing anyone's bandwidth by linking to their uploaded image, so yeah all is good.

I think you misunderstood the concept of "hotlinking" :) the reason they prevent it is because of high use of bandwidth not because someone else uploaded it.. imgur being an imagehosting service they do not count in that sense..

if you were to pick an image from some random place like say, a pic from ocuk website and hotlink(bb tags for img) on a forum that'd be wrong and that'd be using bandwidth from ocuk servers.

The only issue would be that you don't 'control' the image. So if the original uploader deleted it it would go. Or (I don't think it is possible on Imgur) they could replace the image with a different one but keep the link the same.

I was kinda hoping this thread was going to be about OcUK Imgurians.

Heh, me too.
