Immersion Heater

To the Internetz!

My boiler has failed and the plumber is coming out Thursday. In the meantime I am trying to use the Immersion Heater to get hot water, but have no idea if it is working and have no hot water.

In my airing cupboard I have a "Water Heater" switch, which I have switched on (I think) and it has a little cut out for a light, but it doesn't come on. If I put my head near the tank I can hear some murmuring noises from it. How would I know if it is working (aside from waiting to get hot water)?

Shouldn't take long if it is.. Give it 20 mins.

Had it on over an hour and a half and nowt. Any chance it's on some kinda timer?

If you're on Economy 7 or 10, it's possible it's hooked up to that circuit, which would mean it'll only come on overnight.

Otherwise it's the kettle and strip-washes for you matey!

hehe, yep. Economy 7 was my thought, maybe it's like my storage heaters in the old flat, which incidentally was a black art to get working.
