Got told that the pc switched off during the day with a BSOD of unknown origin.
Booted up last night to be told that one of the RAID array had "FAILED"
Details in the BIOS just showed ??? AAAA ~X~~X sort of symbols as if it couldn't read it.
A power disconnect for five mins and boot into BIOS showed it now found the hard disc and then booted through the RAID driver fine and booted into windows.
In the middle of Checkdisc it shut down and same thing reccurred, until powered down for 5-10 mins.
Once I got it back into windows I did a -run chkddsk command in a window and it seemed to complete this fine without crashing.
then did a defrag and still fine....

EDIT to add
It's been on all last night and all day today and all evening so far with not a hint of an issue. so I dont "think" it's heat related

Afraid to turn the thing off now lol

Do you think one of my Raptors on it's way out :(

Don't ignore the signs - backup NOW (if you haven't already) - can't tell you what the problem is* - but if you don't already have some external storage - one of these is a great investment:

Seagate 250GB External USB 2.0 8MB Cache Hard Drive (HD-073-SE) - £74.01 Including VAT at 17.5%

I've got a 1Tb in 4 250gig USB2 discs and love it.

* While its possible that the drive is dying it sounds to me more likely either a loose cable or something getting too hot - specially the interface board on the disc... please please tell me you have atleast a 2cm air gap between it and the other disc in the array...

The case is a Lian Li PC60 and they are the only two drives in the machine. admitedly they are in two adjacent slots so not much air gap between them.
Will look into that.

I'm OK on the storage side of things.
When I built this rig last month, I had enough spares to make another so along with 4 400GB Barraccudas it all went up in the attick. :D

The only things on this machine is the O/S and games (plus all the usual flash players divx players and web surfing bits and bobs. so no big deal if it does go down on me ooh errr

cool

those raptors run hot as hell from my experience - why I went for a seagate raid setup - so heres hoping its just getting too warm after prolonged running...

I still wouldn't discount heat entirely...

http://www.hdtune.com/

see if you can get the temperatures off the HDDs with that - tho as RAID usually results in SMART being disabled on the discs it prolly won't show any useful info on the drive states.
