VAT is completely different and is not imposed to protect the economy from foreign influence, its imposed for a number of reasons including state revenue generation. No idea why you are talking about VAT though.

It's a tax on goods just like tariffs, part of the same problem which is why I am talking about it, they are all a drain on us.
There is no relevancy to talk about VAT in an Import duties/tariffs thread.

Often the term duty is used to refer to VAT by the average person.

Nobody but you is talking about VAT. Go and start a VAT thread if you wish to complain about VAT.

I'm complaining about both.
Yeah and lots of people use it to refer to VAT.

People do not class Import Duties as VAT. Please understand this!

Anyway, you are talking rubbish and trying to dig your way out of a hole - you implied that the economic rationale I explained for import duty was wrong and cited VAT as a reason why it was wrong.
Loads of people refer to VAT, excise duty and customs duty as just "duty"
or "customs charges
[TW]Fox;18169699 said:Quite why you prolong this by continuing to argue I've no idea.
Loads of people refer to VAT, excise duty and customs duty as just "duty" or "customs charges", not saying it's correct, just common usage by many.
I've never ever ever ever heard anyone refer to VAT as Import Duty![]()

the other people posted in this thread disagree with you.
I just always find is amusing to see you quibble over semantics.![]()
And that changes the fact that I've come across people using the terms interchangeably, how?
