Today i was informed of some pretty startling news that made me question just what rites we have as a consumer.
It apears that BT,Talk Talk and virgin media intend to bring into play a company called PHORM, they have effectivly sold there customers online traffic to this company to better forword there advertising.
Im a little miffed to learn there will be pretty much nothing i can do if i wish to stay on with the ISP and that my ISP os condoning 3rd party spam for there customers, or effectivly Malware/spyware outside of our machines.
Heres the article in question

Phorm

This will also be intresting reading for you all.

Here

On a side note, there is a little more virgin bashing to be done. As a customer of them and the former telewest i loved the feature of unlimited bandwidth, it pretty much sold the service to me but the introduction of TSM (traffic shaping mesures) miffed me a little; you can imagine how i feel when i start hearing rumors there is going to be 20 hour TSM put into effect. Im yet to confirm but i thought it best to let people now as it appears on the matter of phorm and the traffic shaping there is little knowladge anywere!

Bit behind the times, i've been following this story for around a month or so now, the big 3 (BT, Carphone Warehouse and Virgin) have changed their stories so many times now its quite funny.

CW and VM have both more or less decided the system will be opt in only, BT have yet to comment. But the way things are going they won't be allowed to do it at all.

It's STM (Subscriber Traffic Management), not TSM. Virgin use traffic shaping (they call it Application Management) for their ADSL services, but not cable.
