First of all - mods, please lock/remove this thread if it goes against the board rules. Im asking for companies that export blu rays over to the UK so I doubt they would be classed as competitors (well other than the obvious ones).

So Guys,

Im looking to build a healthy BD collection but have decided that the majority of titles Ill get will still be DVD and it will only be choice films that Ill get on BD (due to the expense).

But thats led me to think that I might as well go out of my way to get the best versions if it will play on my UK PS3 so the title has to be multi-region if it isnt BD Region B. By best I either mean better transfer, has more features or has different editions...

Could anyone help me with a list of companies that do import/export to the UK.

The BDs Im after right now for example are the 2 latest Batman films and I think Ive found out that there is a Limited Edition Batman Begins in the USA that has more features:

The limited-edition Blu-ray gift set includes Blu-Ray high-def exclusive content: The Dark Knight Prologue, plus Hollywood Movie Money to see The Dark Knight in theaters (a $7.50 value), 32-page exclusive Dark Knight Prologue book, 16-page comic book adaptation of the first 6 minutes of The Dark Knight, a Batman Begins lenticular, and five collectible post cards.
Unsure about The Dark Knight at the moment...

TIA

Try www.movietyme.com. Just checked the website and I don't see them selling any hardware, so I hope that they're not competitors. Apols if seen as otherwise.

Not only will they sell to the UK, but they also have a listing of region free US disks (roughly 75% of BD disks are NOT region coded), meaning that they'll play happily on a UK player.
The only downside is that they're not that cheap. Having said that, I did recently watch the US release of the latest Indy Jones movie, so at least the release date is better than the UK.

no import will work on your uk ps3, unless you use an os on it ..... but then there sluggish well from the youtube videos, ps3 games are regionless the movies are region encoded .....

the back of a box cnet zdnet digg and general knowledge of hollywood being pr*ks to the world because they want more money !

But it isnt enforced yet - not widely (look at my link above), so while it isnt, you can freely import BDs that are region-free. I agree it will change in the future, but while it isnt I cant see any reason not to get them, especially when they could be better featured/cheaper...

You need to update your sources, as they are poor if theyve led you to that decision...

I had this discussion with someone the other day about DVDs.

Someone brought me season 2 of Dexter back from Miami and it played perfectly. I've not had the chance to see if it was regional as I've already lent it out again.

Is my PS3 region free?
No. Your PS3 console is not region free.

Region coding still applies for DVDs and Blu-ray Discs and PlayStation 2 games, which means you will only be able to play the Blu-ray or DVD if they are clearly marked Region ALL or Region B for Blu-ray Discs (if you live in Europe) and Region 2 for DVDs (if you live in Europe).

All PS3 games are region free, however.

Although many Blu-ray Discs are region locked, more than half of current releases are in fact region free!

Although no official statement has ever been released by Sony, it is believed that the PS3 games are not region locked to curb pirating. On older gen systems, gamers had to chip their systems in order to play import games, which in return also allowed for pirates games to be played on the system.

The good thing about them is the postage is reasonable and you don't get hit by customs. Sure [huge competitor].com is cheaper, but if you want it in a reasonable amount of time the postage is extortionate.

Is the displayed shipping @ AxelMusic for the US or is that Worldwide? Doesnt say anything anywhere about it - £2.50 seems cheap...

Sid - I might drop you an email to confirm a price if thats ok - unsure if I can post here...

currently around 80% (id say) of blurays from the U.S will work on uk players without problems. those that dont work are noted as not working on the sites that import them such as movietyme.

Even if the disc says region A only it still may work on uk players.
I ordered T2 from axlemusic and it came from belgium i think

If you're using a computer based blu-ray drive and eg PowerDVD, you can just reset the region code when-ever you want anyway.

Any other suggestions on import sites by the way?
