As for shipping. It should not be a huge problem, or find someone that is shipping a container over, last year I shipped a 40ft container over which was full of stuff for 2800 USD so if you can find someone with a bit of space they would do it for 50-100 pounds.

The tax man does not have to know how much they are really worth! You could get away with saying 400 GBP without any problem.

Just found out a good friend of mine is going out to the city where they are in a few weeks, would it be horrendously expensive to bring them back as extra luggage? Or would he be better off sending them back separately?

Get a flight and put them in your hand luggage!

Fake 2 broken legs, get a flight over in a wheel chair, fit bling BBS wheels to wheel chair, get return flight home... simple

the only way to find out is to check the airline's overweight baggage rules.

I imported some SSR wheels from the States (CA) last year, and paid ~ £200 - £250 shipping.

They took ~2 weeks to arrive IIRC. Deffinately worth doing if said wheels are hard to pick up in the UK, or you can grab a bargain.
