I'd like to buy a snowboard from canada/america and import it as its so much cheaper. But what sort of import charges will it incur if customs pick it up?

You will have to pay VAT.
And you will have to pay the mandatory parcelfarce charge of £14.50 just for the pleasure of them charging you vat and duty.

Where are you ordering from? All of the American sites I've tried will not ship the popular brand snowboards outside the continental US.

Not found a place yet, was just an idea. Im still browsing. Thinking burton 2010 jussi, want the burton custom 09/10 but the design is awful

personally, i don't think it's not worth it, plus the pound is very weak so you won't be getting that great a deal.

unless you really must have a 2010, have a look for discounts on old stock from previous seasons, be they on web sites or in shops.

I found a site in america which was doing the 09/10 burton custom for 569$, which is £343. Its £470 in the UK, everywhere. So not sure how much shipping and duty was e.t.c. Probs marginally cheapear if anything.

But if I get a board whilst out in canada I think I should save.

Edit: Found the site, dosent ship outside canada or usa http://www.the-house.com

Why not just buy something when you get there? There are loads of skiing/boarding shops in Whistler "village" and unless you want something particularly unusual I can't see why you'd find it hard to buy it on the spot.

so it's £130 cheaper.
say shipping is £50, VAT is ~£60

so that's a saving of £20. is it worth it? not at the current exchange rates.

i read in the 09/10 ski thread you're going over to north america in january. get it there!
it'll be used when you bring it back so you won't have to pay any duties :)

Especially Burtons - they'll be everywhere. Why pay to get it shipped over only to take it straight back?
