Does anyone know of any sites/galleries of impressive photos taken with budget gear, or pros using really low-end equipment to great effect? :)

Post some here if you've got any favourites.

You will find a lot of sites are taken from budget equipment. The skills/understanding light/exposure setup/moment is what will get your "impressive photos"

Forget impressive bodies.. expensive glass will look more vibrant out of the box, performance and bokeh etc yes.

Photoshop
filter sets
lighting equipment

Thats pretty much all thats gonna really improve things.

Why is that terrifying?:) Apart from edgy subjects and processing there's nothing really special about them... in my opinion:D

Because I'd have virtually any of that gallery as prints in my home and they're taken with a phone. They're (in my opinion obviously) far better photos than most people produce with semi pro DSLRs.

An iphone, a mac and a copy of photoshop is not cheap.

Even Lomo is expensive these days.

I believe they're processed with the best photo app in phone. And it's very cheap indeed if you already have an iphone as, you know, a phone. But cost aside, it's low spec gear by any standard and the results are impressive.

I do agree they are great shots, but to put them in the same fold as shots from a £25 point and shoot from ebay is a little off kilter.

Yeah I agree with that, but then with the huge popularity of DSLR's now, every clown has got one and has no idea how to use it:D

I know, i let people hold mine and they are just baffled at the number of buttons on display. Half of those expected the back LCD to show Liveview off the bat and didn't get what the viewfinder is for.

Yes, that annoys me! "why isn't it showing what I'm taking a picture of"... I try to explain there's a mirror/shutter in the way... Normally ends up with me getting a funny look for spending so much money on a camera without such a basic feature!

Doesn't an iPhone cost more than a DSLR? :p

Well I specifically said semi pro, that is, D300 or equivalent in my view. Anything less is just consumer gear.

And I've already answered that, it's essentially free if you happen to have an iphone already and that's not exactly unusual. The low spec is what matter though, could just as easily be a £50 PAYG phone for all it matters.

You still haven't gotten the point though bigredshark, "cheap equipment" is an entirely subjective concept.

To me, it means stuff bought from car boot sales (do they still exist?), cheap chinese plastic 35mm cameras, home made pinhole cameras, Things like that.
