Impreza STI, big decisions...

I am with Admiral, and have a multicar policy with another car I run. I paid about £1300 this year, that is with me being 22years old with 5 years protected NCB. Which I think was a bargain. Was £1900 the previous year on multicar. And £3500 the year before that :O !

performancedirect have been cheapest for me so far but its mainly due to my postcode [even though i live on a quiet country road in the middle of nowhere]
need to give a few more specialists a call really.

The three best scoob insurers are Keith Michaels (make sure that you ask for Gary Moulson - he has a scoob and knows the market as well), A-Plan and Greenlight. Check out the Insurance section of ScoobyNet for phone numbers. All three should be a lot more realistic about JDM cars.

That said, I've never understood the fuss about JDM. The STIs get 2 litre twinscroll, and continued to do so after the Europeans got the 2.5 to match the Americans. The JDM unit revs higher and spools a bit faster, but pays for it with lower torque, and torque that comes at higher revs. If your preferred driving style is to rev the nuts off your cars then you may want it, but if you like a more relaxed style then the more torquey, and lower revs-to-torque 2.5 might be more your style. And I think the JDM gets a rear window wiper.

Really got the itch to move on now from my 306 HDi (tinkered with to make it somewhere around 150bhp) and go to an Impreza WRX STi,

I'm 23 so Insurance is still going to be expensive I take it? Better off waiting until I'm 25?

I only cover around 6-10k per year, so going from 45-50mpg to 20-25mpg shouldn't hurt too much? ;)

Get a quote and pay it monthly, your only young once.
 
I'm going to get flamed to hell and back for this DM.. but my Parents pay and arrange my car insurance, It's all on the family fleet attached to our Insurance Policy for the family dairy farm here :o

So, I have zero no claims at a guess!

I wont flame you mate, i been paying my kids insurance from day 1, cost me 5k a year for both their cars plus having my boy named on mine, thats what family is for.

Get your dad to insure it and give him a few quid off the back if it makes you feel better, thats what my daughter does, she gives me 50 quid now and then, which i save up to give her back :)

If you can sorted through that fleet policy then go for it now. If you struggle and have to go with a specialist import/modified insurance company it might be worth baring in mind that some experience in a similar car can mean the difference between them doing you a good deal or putting the phone down on you because they think you're a dreamer, so it might be worth looking at maybe going with something like a WRX to prove that you're not going to embed yourself in the nearest hedge when you get behind the wheel of a proper car ;).

21 is still there.

I did some quotes for me on a Hawkeye WRX. Only thing I changed was the DOB from what it really is (aged 20, 21 in September) and pretending it was my 21st Birthday yesterday. Went from £10900 to £1300. Didn't try an STi.
 
what are the performance figures like on a STI standard?


I currently have a EP3 Type R and dunno whether to chop this in for something like a STI.


Looking at doing more track days so the car will be used for this from time to time.


My EP3 would need a few quid spending on upgrading the brakes and suspension to go as well as i want round a track, hence why Im looking at alternatives possibly.

On a blob, 0-60 is about 4.8 seconds, top speed about 152. Around 265bhp IIRC, and 260ftlb - roughly. But that's not the point - the point is how much speed the thing can carry into a corner without sliding out backwards. That and how easily it can be modded over 400bhp.

Bit overpriced IMO. Plus, there really is no mechanical difference between a blob and a bug so not worth paying more for a blob which is only marginally better looking.

Prodrive STI Bugeye really is the best buy for a non DCCD UK STI. DCCD came in late 54 plate onwards.

IMO anyway.

Shall get onto the insurers tommorow for some quotes ;)

Tried compare the market for a laugh this evening, came back with £3600 FC for the year, on my own policy without the parents as named drivers.

Thanks Edd, It does seem overpriced looking around. Excuse me for being dumb (and probably not reading around as much as I should be) but what's this DCCD you speak of?
