Well im trying to lower my cpu and gpu temps on air cooling. How would you lot suggest going about this ?

Currently i have a lian li PC7. It has 1 120 fan sucking from the front then another blowing out of the rear of the case. Then i have a 80 fan on the top blowing into the case also.

My CPU is cooled via a Noctua and has artic silver 5 cpu compound. The GPU is a 8800GTX on stock cooling. Exact system speccy is in my sig.

Thanks in advance.

This is a pic of the inside of my case.

Im getting idle temps of arround 40 - 43, and load temps of arround 61 - 64 on the cpu. The GPU idles arround 65, not to sure what its doing under load.

would say they temps are fine, nothing to panick about. if it's the fans that came with case your are using, replacing them would help a some.
i put an extra 120mm fan in my lian li, attached it with clips to the side mesh part, help with around 2-3c drop :) never tryed the 80mm fan @ top as most around here said it had really no great effect on temps.

Is that a G0 Q6600 or a B3 Q6600 and what are you measuring the temps with?

Reason I ask is that those temps are not that bad for a G3 at 3.2 but could be improved with something like an Ultra 120 cooler.

Also there isn't much way for the air to flow past that behemoth of a video card. You might want to look at adding a further 120mm fan opposite the cpu cooler in the front of the case using a Scythe Kama-Bay System/Hard Drive Cooler and moving the DVD up

I'm not saying this will work, but try it anyway before you spend a shedload of money on fans.

Reverse the airflow on the rear 120mm so it's blowing in.
Turn the fan around on the Noctua so it's blowing in too.
Leave the front fan blowing in as well.

You now have a positive pressure case - more air going in than out.
Your CPU cooler is now breathing cold air
Your GPU fan will work more efficiently because the air pressure in the case is helping it push air out the back.
Hot air in enouraged away from the bottom of the case by convection and also by the top mounted 80mm fan.

Both the CPU and GPU should be cooler.

That's the theory - give it a go and see how you get on.

Wouldn't he have to turn the fan around in the top so it was an exhaust or would you be relying on the gfx card cooler to exhaust all the air fro the case?

Im going to give this a go tonight, sounds very interesting. Thanks.

 WJA96, I am surprised at you. Turning the fans around like that will result in hot air from the PSU being recycled. Negative air pressure, fans pulling air from the front is better. Older Lian li cases were designed like that on purpose.

Damien, ditch the stock fan grill, you will notice some reduction in noise and lower temps too. An 80mm fan at the top does help a bit too.
The System exhaust blower may help get rid of that hot air pocket under the GTX, but it's a noisy little blighter. I had one years ago and threw it in the bin.

I still think adding a Kama bay with a fan in the front of the case pointing at the CPU cooler will add the maximum amount of cool air.

Yer, i had a look at them on the OC shop, they look quite nifty and bound to get the job done. Will probably order one next week. Out of interest ill let you lot know how much it cools my machine by.

I've just set up a PC7+ here as I suggested and my CPU temperature dropped 3C, no change in graphics temperature, but it's an ATI card and so it pulls air from outside anyway.

I still like my original suggestion. Give it a go.
