Improving Wireless connection signal

Hi there, i'm at university and in a big old building. As a result signal is pretty patchy and i'm lucky to get 6mbps. If I bought a rangemax adapter I'm assuming the router i'm connecting to would also have to be rangemax?

Are there any ways that I can boost my signal strength from this side of things that are legal of course. Shoving my adapter in a pringles tin doesn't seem all that appealing...

Correct, it won't make a difference. You can change the antenna on the router and/or adapter, for a more powerful one.

I don't think OcUK do replacement antennas, but other places do.
