OK, I've blocked the toilet, and we don't own a plunger. I could go buy one, but I'm kinda pressed for time here, need to unblock it fairly quick.

Give it to me straight: have we reached the necessity for hands here? I'd only do it as a last resort... Is this it? Has the moment arrived?

Get a big bucket of water and pour it down there from a height. Repeat until blockage hopefully clears

any stick, even a a branch will do. it just needs ot be a able to bend
are you saying you cant go to the shops?

if you can find some electrtical cable, that would be good, as its reasonably stiff yuet bendy

Try the bucket of water suggestion first, that tends to work. If it doesn't, at this point I think you're going to be on your knees, elbow deep I'm afraid.

Try the bucket method, use hot water, the hotter the better - I usually stick a kettle full of boiling water in the bucket as well.

I was in more of a hurry than I even knew, she walked in through the door a minute ago!!! Fortunately I had just disposed of the evidence with mere fractions of a second to spare. I used bleach, in the end. I didn't have time to check here for replies. I knew about the bucket, but I don't have one, unfortunately, and no time to go buy one. I didn't know about the baking powder and vinegar, might try those if it happens again!

Anyway, must dash off! Thanks for replies, request thread be closed and archived as it adds immeasurably to the store of human knowledge!

if you're sure its a u ben blockage then get your hand/stick/anything else in there and remove it! If it's further on you need some rods and to find the nearest manhole!

I usually stick a kettle full of boiling water in the bucket as well.

Won't the kettle also get stuck?
