There has always been something below the F430 or equivalent. So hardly cheapening the brand.

Really? Please explain - the F430 is the base of the Ferrari range. It's predecessor, the F360, was in its time the base of the Ferrari range. And the F360's predecssor, the F355, as also the base of the Ferrri range.

I cannot think of anything in the last 15 years that has been 'below the F430 or equivilent'.
