In at the deep end; water cooling my SM8 ;s

They're awesome, they also very big, the end tanks aren't small, the 480 is too big for the top of the SM8 really.

I wouldn't advise anyone build a WC loop/pc over a period of weeks when time permits. Well, I certainly shouldn't have at least. I thought I'd finally put some fluid in it while I had a couple of hours the other night but I should've gone to bed. It wasn't until it was half filled that I realised a) one of the gpu blocks had a plug missing and b) the 240 had the rubber shipping plug in one end of it still. Trying to plug two holes that coolant was ****ing out of whilst trying to find plugs to put in them was a bit of a mission. Utter stupidity on my part, just got to the point where I just wanted it done and rushed :/ No damage done, apart from to my carpet so lesson learnt!

Hope to get it filled and leak tested (with all holes that are meant to be filled, filled!) this weekend, and hopefully turn it on. Long over due!

To conclude: don't be an idiot like me, double check everythings done up before charging in!

The hose is normal XSPC 'clear' stuff from ocuk, I have some clear UV, some white, some black and some red, dunno what I'll use in the end!

Been moving for what seems like weeks, so the SM8 has been sat in a corner being sorry for itself for a while :( Very sorry in fact, as I can see red coolant through the front panel, haven't looked to see where its coming from yet :D

Moving's done with, tomorrow I hope to actually open it up for the first time in what seems and probably is weeks and see whats going on and where the red stuffs coming from - hopefully my RIVE, Doms and Titans are, hmm, not wet? Otherwise there will be tears! ;S

lovely build, enjoying the various loops you have tried prefer it to i did this seems like your actually planning it :D

I did try and plan it, I was really patient waiting to get everything before I started, trying different rad and pipe setups. Then things went **** up and I got busy. The hour here and there method of building didn't work, culminating in the rushed first fill with 2 plugs missing :P

Not particularly a fan of the CSQ design from EKWB, but this looks mighty fine! :D
Good job mate!
Kind of wish I hadn't used it tbh - made fitting a lot tighter and thus harder - basically everything its in proximity to it has about a billimetre of clearance, 1/2 tube/comp fittings wasn't a clever choice in hindsight! Bit late now though ;d

Sadly, I have to report more idiocy :(

Continued filling and was bleeding from various places, ended up leaving one of the 480s top bungs off while taking the res lid off; bad times, red stuff everywhere! Spurted out of the top rad, some on mobo, titans, psu....I'm not usually utterly retarded, but this has become more of a comedy of errors than I'd initially expected, and I was expecting to make a lot of errors!

Red splodges = bad:

Titans yoinked for inspection/drying:

One of the Titans was a bit over-tim'd, so not a complete waste of time:

Red stuff on titan board = bad, fingers crossed!:

And all back together for leak testing:

Run for about 6-7 hours so far, everything looks dry. Left it over night however and found this:

Inlet/outlet from res are both bone dry, on closer inspection the tapped hole in the corner of the res that the cover plates screw into appeared to be the cause:

You can just make out a crack across the thread :( I assume this was like it when it arrived, cause it hasn't been dropped and I havent fitted the ally cover yet :/

I've propped the case up such that the corner is dry - and have applied superglue! Hopefully it will seal it, not sure why its dry during use? Otherwise, I'll have to empty the res and replace it ;s

Fingers crossed that a) superglue wins the game and b) all stuff that got wet still works, expensive bed side table leftover otherwise!

Ouch, quite the series of setbacks with this build!

Best of luck, it'll definitely be an awesome machine once it's up and running.

Have a replacement res to fit, as I'm using the super-glued original still...then need to tidy up all the cabling, started sleeving some cables but don't really have the time to do them all at the mo.

Idle temps are cooooooool, and its very quiet even without side panels, top, front etc. Titans just about hit low 30s during Valley benchmark with half the fans not running so hopefully it should run cool and near-silent when its complete.

Pretty happy so far, run for about 24 hours, no sign of leaks or any other problems; looking forward to tidying it up and migrating over to it :)
