I'm not sure where to post this so I'll put it here and if it's wrong could a nice mod please move it.

We currently have a portable DVD player that straps onto the headrest in our car to keep our 3 year old happy on long drives.

It's a bit fiddly and has developed a problem where the eject just not hold so unless we tape the drive shut it ejects on the first bump you hit.

Now I have been looking at picking up one of these sets that are built into headrests so you just take your original headrests out and replace them with these ones and you have twin DVD players.

Now I'm wondering because we drive a 2 door car the seats are put forward all the time and people have a tendency to just let the seat fall back into place, would this upset the dvd players with the seat back slamming back into place or are they robust enough to take it. obviously if you did it with them playing I would expect them to skip but just sitting there is it going to knock things out of alignment or anything?

What unit are you thinking of using?

Usually these have a video feed from the head unit rather than the drive being built into the headrest :)

Ant

The separates are too expensive for my budget the ones I am looking at have the drives right in the unit.

There is a zipped panel in the back of the headrest that opens to expose the screen and then the screen folds open to put the disk behind it

i was looking at these a few years back. i think the screens will be nice and secure but i bet over a few years of moving the seat back and forth (slamming) might loosen it up but i cant see it being much of a problem to secure again.

Outside shot, how about an iPad? Can get a second hand 16GB Wifi pretty cheaply I'd imagine, plenty of space on that for a few movies and no moving parts.

Ipad is not an option because of the take out and put back in factor which is what we are trying to avoid by going built in.

And @Philz0r I'm not worried about them coming loose as they are built in to the headrests I am worried about the lasers getting knocked out of alignment
